The movie was filmed from July 17, 1997 through December
19, 1997. Movie preparation took so long due to complex digital
editing and cinematography. The planned release was in the fall,
October. Director Nancy Meyers wanted the release date to be moved up due
to heavy movie competition and pure excitement.
"The Parent Trap" was released July 29, 1998.
The premiere was held in at Mann's Theater in Westwood, California near
the University of California Los Angeles. The premeire was July 20,
1998. The film has currently made $70,000,000.
Movie Synopsis
In 1986,
Nick Parker and Elizabeth James meet on the Queen Elizabeth II sailing
from New York to London. They meet when they are seated next to each
other at dinner. They fall in love and hastily get married.
Elizabeth gives birth to twin girls, Annie and Hallie. Problems soon
arise in their marriage and Elizabeth moves to England. Elizabeth
is given custody of Annie and Nick has Hallie. 11 years and 9 months
go by. Nick has become a successful wine maker and lives in Napa
Valley. Elizabeth becomes a famous wedding gown designer in London.
They both have forgot about each other and their twin kids. Until...
Hallie
and Annie are both sent to summer camp for the first time. They both
fly to Maine to attend Walden Summer Camp for Girls. The girls attend
camp and meet during a fencing contest. The girls see each other
for the first time. Hallie denies their visual similarity.
They become enemies and exchange practical jokes. The two girls are
condemned to the isolation cabin. There the girls realize who their
parents are when they combine the picture of their parents taken on the
Queen Elizabeth. They become friends. Hallie decides that the
two girls should switch places to meet the parents they have never seen
and to also bring them back together. At the end of camp, Annie goes
to Napa as Hallie, and Hallie goes to London as Annie. Then the craziness
begins.....
