DR. M. FRANCIS DOUGHERTY- 1911-1999
Fran was the first head of the University of Oregon Dance Department and served in that position from 1959 to 1975 when she retired. She was a long time member of Western Society, held many positions on the board, was speaker, committee chair, and Editor of two Conference Proceedings and one of our honorary members. Fran thought so much of WSPECW that she left a portion of her estate to the organization.
DR. ANN PATTERSON – 1916-1997
Professor and chair of the Women’s Physical Education Department at San Francisco State University from 1956 until retirement in 1976. Dr. Patterson’s leadership style modeled for all of us the importance of being an active citizen within the university community.  She was cofounder and 1st president of the SFS, University Club, served many years as an active and outspoken member of the faculty council of the academic senate and was also instrumental in the development of the statewide CSU retiree’s organization.
She as a long time member of Western Society and encouraged her women faculty to become active and contributing members of our organization.
MARION PENNEY – 1908 – 1999
Marion joined the faculty at the University of British Columbia in 1947 and retired 26 years later in 1973. She was a long time member of Western society and served as our president in 1957-59. she was also an Honorary Member of the Society.
BILLIE POSTON - 1938-2000
Dr. Poston began her career at California State University, Fresno in 1967. Billie coached swimming for 18 years, directed the synchronized swimming shows and pioneered curriculum developments in aquatics, massage and sports psychology. She was particularly noted for her volunteer work with the American Red Cross. Recently her energies were devoted to improving accessibility for people with disabilities. She will be remembered for her incredible courage, compassion, guidance, understanding, ability to nurture dignity and her wonderful southern charm and will. She was a member of WSPECW for 20+ years. Billie Passed away April 15, 2000.
DR. BEVERLY WADSWORTH - 1928-1999
Dr. Wadsworth’s professional life consisted of nearly 50 years as a dedicated teacher. Providing opportunities for students to learn was her purpose. She was loved, highly respected, and adored by those who were fortunate enough to know her. She taught at California State University, Chico from 1968 to 1998 in the Physical Education Department. Bev was actively involved in CAHPERD, AAHPERD, Delta Kappa Gamma and other professional organization. She was an Emeritae Member of WSPECW.
