honoree, Talaid begins her second season with the Matadors...as a rookie,
she finished tied for second on the team in singles wins with a 16-14 overall
record...posted a 3-1 mark and claimed the runner-up trophy in singles play for
Flight 5&6 at the CS Los Angeles Invitational last year...in doubles action
last season, she went 8-15 overall with three different partners...had the most
success with Jocelyn Hendricks, recording a 5-3 doubles slate as a team.
ROSEMEAD HIGH SCHOOL: Earned four letter(1992-95) as a member of the Rosemead High
School tennis squad...was coached by Karrie Hensley all four years...competed
at the No. 1 singles position, garnering All-Mission Valley League honors all four
times and also a 4-time MVP...a career high school record of 135-5...the Panthers were Mission Valley
League champions in 1993 and 1995...was a runner-up with doubles partner
Jackie Jocson at the 95th annual Southern California Junior Sectionals in the
girl's 18-under division in 1995...
graduated in 1996 with a 3.5 grade point average.
PERSONAL: Born on Oct. 25, 1978, in Lakewood, Calif...the oldest daughter of
Charito and Juan Talaid...younger sister is named Tania...also recruited by
Cal Poly Pomona...lists being selected as an All-Big Sky Conference honorable
mention in 1997 her greatest athletic highlight to date...in the professional
ramks, she roots for the Los Angeles Lakers...her favorite television show is
"South Park"...enrolled at Cal State Northridge in the fall of 1996...majoring in
speech communications
