Myth
: A fetus is only a lump of flesh, and is not a living human being until it is outside of the womb. It doesn't feel anything, know anything, and can't be hurt by an abortion.Fact
: A fetus, at as little as ten weeks old, already has all major organs in place and functioning, has developed or is developing these major organs, and features such as fingers and toes. The fetus has also developed a brain AND a complex nervous system, thus respond to stimuli and even feel pain.Myth
: A fetus is not a human being until it can survive on its own, outside the uterus.Fact
: If this is true, than nobody is human until at least adolescence!Myth
: It is only legal to have an abortion up to a certain specified time.Fact
: In Canada, a woman may have a legal abortion at ANY time before giving birth. The life of the child in this situation is NOT regarded as a living human being until its head is completely exposed to the environment (not in the birth canal or the womb). The difference is that many doctors who perform abortions will not perform an abortion after a certain specified time.Myth
: A fetus isn't a human under any circumstances.Fact
: In Canada woman may charge a person with second degree murder if her unborn child dies as the result of a violent attack against the mother. The life of the child in this situation is regarded as a living human being.How is this a conflict of issues? In the eyes of the law, a fetus isn't human, and may be destroyed legally, but if in the case of an attack on a mother, the fetus is human and is illegal to destroy. The obvious conclusion: The government won't take a stand.
Myth
: Abortion doesn't hurt the fetus or the mother.Fact
: There is no non-brutal way of aborting a fetus. All methods are painful for the child, and for the mother. In many cases, the mother is given a Tylenol 3 before entering the "abortion room" where the abortion is performed without anesthetic. : Quite often doctors do not tell their patients the harmful effects of abortion, and some even lie. There have been several documented accounts of women contracting severe infections. As a result, many will never be able to bear cildren, and many have even died!Myth
: It is acceptable to abort a fetus if the life of the mother is at stake. (I.e., the equal rights issue.)Fact
: Many mothers claim that they will commit suicide if they must carry the baby to term. Those who receive counseling instead are more likely to choose not to commit suicide. The suicide rates for those who have had an abortion are much higher than those who received counseling. Equal rights? If the mother has the right to live, why doesn't the child?!Myth
: After an abortion, life just goes on as usual.Fact
: Many individuals after an abortion suffer with what's called "Post Abortion Syndrome," (similar to post tramatic stress syndrome) which causes the individual to fall into deep depression, often resulting in suicide.Myth
: Abortion doesn't affect men in any way.Fact
: Men can go through post abortion syndrome. Remember that it's his baby too! He is just as much a part of that child as you are, and should be seriously considered when contemplating and deciding options.Myth
: There are laws protecting the lives of the unborn so that no death can be authorized unjustly.Fact
: In Canada, there is no law against abortion, although there used to be. Although it may be difficult to get an abortion, it is not illegal, as there is no law to govern it.Myth
: It's my body and I will do what I want with it!Fact
: When you are pregnant, your actions are not just done to your body. It is also done to the life of your child. Any other concept is thought to be selfish and unethical. If you want to destroy the quality of your own life, that's your decision, but you are wrong to let your actions directly and intentionally destroy the lives of others.Myth
: I have no choice, abortion is my only option.Fact
: You always have a choice, and believe it or not, there is help out there for you. There are many crisis pregnancy centers that will help you deal with your pregnancy, and under extreme circumstances, they will even provide shelter for you. And what's more, "adoption is the loving option!"Myth
: If wife/partner/girlfriend wants to have an abortion, I can't stop her. It's her body, her decision.Fact
: If there would ever a time your wife/partner/girlfriend needs you most, it's now! Gentlemen assisting a partner through a crisis pregnancy can make a huge difference. Hearing you say "I love you, I don't want you to be hurt and I don't want you to go through an abortion. We could consider other options," may make all the difference in the world. : Pro-life people are anti-abortion activists that want to fill our heads with propaganda. They don't believe in freedom of choice, and try to persuade the government to believe so also.BIG Fact
: Pro-life people are anti-violent campaigners who do believe in the freedom of choice, and choose life! "Pro-lifers" dislike any violent act upon any man woman or child, unborn or elderly, despite of their morals or occupation. Pro-lifers seek to persuade the government to acknowledge the human life in unborn fetuses, and the rights of the unborn. Pro-lifers want the government to create and enforce laws that will protect our unborn.BIG Myth
: Pro-life activists are responsible for the killings of various abortion doctors. Pro-life protests result in violence because "Pro-lifers" are dangerous.BIG Fact
:Any individual who kills anybody is not pro-life, even if they are anti-abortionists! Violence in pro-life protests is caused by police-brutality, most famously displayed in Ireland during the ongoing Pro-life movement. Hierarchy organizations seek to suppress the pro-life message for many reasons (money generated from abortion procedures is one of the most common) including the fact that they do not want the general public to see and know the truth. (Sound a bit like conspiracy?) Pro-lifers are not dangerous, powerful organizations engaging in unethical activities, lies and suppressing the truth are dangerous.If a nation can be defined by the way it treats its children, then we have truely failed. We continue to claim that the children are our future, what chance do we have to survive if we continue to destroy them before they are born?
