This
past week we heard a true story about a time when a family showed
kindess to their friend by building him a room that he could stay in
when he was in town. After the story, we read another special
story about kindness -- "Mr. Bell's Fixit Shop". |

THIS PAST
WEEK
(February 12, 2012)
9:00 am -
12:00 pm
Do you like to get surprises? Do you like to be the one giving
the suprise to someone else? This past week in the SPEEDway we
heard a true story about a family that gave a big surprise to
their friend Elisha. When Elisha would come to their town from
time to time, he often stayed at their home. One day, this special
family thought of a wonderful way to help Elisha and surprise
him at the same time! Do you know what they did? Click here to find out!
We also heard a story called, "Mr. Bell's Fixit Shop". This story was about a little girl whose doll was distroyed
by the family dog. She was very sad about what happened and took
it to Mr. Bell who owned a "fixit" shop. The problem was that
it was time for the shop to close! That didn't stop Mr. Bell.
He showed his love by staying open into the night to fix the
little girl's doll. He knew how happy she would be if he spent
a little of his time helping her out!
God is always happy when we help other people. Helping others
is called serving. When you see someone carrying a load of groceries
in both hands, opening the door for that person would be a way
of serving them. When a new child comes to your church or school,
going over and offering to be that person's friend is also a way
of serving others. Can you think of a time this past week when
you offered to help a person who needed your help? See how many
opportunities God gives you to serve others this week. Serving
others can be lots of fun, and is also a wonderful way of pleasing
and obeying God!
Before group time, our Sonshiners decorated heart shaped doilies
with markers, crayons and stickers to make their own Valentine
decorations. These decorations could be given to friends and family
as a way of saying "Happy Valentine's Day". Some of our Sonshiners
listened to a special story in the listening center called "Helping
Hands" about a child who learned different ways of showing love
to others by serving. A puzzle of this week's Bible story was
also available to put together during center time.
This past week we learned a song to help us remember this week's
Bible verse. The song was called, "Serve One Another In Love". We learned how to sign this song in American Sign Language
as well. This week, see how many people you can serve!

This past week we learned that God wants us to willingly help
others. Helping others is called "serving". How many people can
you find to serve this week? |

Before
the story, Connor tried to see if it was easier getting dressed with
his eyes open or blindfolded. (He discovered that being able to
see helped a lot!) |
