San Diego County Board of Education
Supports"Matthew's Law"

14 January, 1999

San Diego - The San Diego County Board of Education passed a resolution supporting "Matthew's Law" at their January 13, 1999 meeting.

California Assemblyman Steve Baldwin introduced Assembly Bill (AB) 4 in memory of 9 year old Matthew Cecchi who was brutally murdered in Oceanside the night of November 14, 1998. AB 4 would make the murder of a child under the age of 14, a death penalty special circumstance.

"I am glad the San Diego County Board of Education supports the passage of Matthew's Law", stated Steve Baldwin. "We need to show statewide grassroots support for this legislation and for the Cecchi family."

The San Diego County Board of Education joins San Diego County and the Cities of San Diego and La Mesa in passing a resolution supporting "Matthew's Law". Other local government entities working on resolutions include the cities of Oceanside, El Cajon, Solana Beach, Lemon Grove and Imperial Beach.
