Lemon Grove City Council Supports
Proposed "Matthew's Law"

19 January, 1999

Lemon Grove - The City Council on a 4 - 0 vote with 1 abstention passed a resolution calling for the state of California to pass AB 4 by Assemblyman Steve Baldwin. The bill titled "Matthew's Law", is in memory of 9 year old Matthew Cecchi who was brutally slain in Oceanside on November 14, 1998.

Steve Baldwin's bill would make the murder of a child under the age of 14, a death penalty special circumstance.

"The support for this legislation by local governments is growing," said Assemblyman Steve Baldwin. "This is the type of support that we will have to show in order to pass AB 4," Baldwin stated.

Several local governments including the County of San Diego, San Diego City, La Mesa and the San Diego County Board of Education have passed resolutions calling for the state to enact "Matthew's Law".
