San Diego County Supervisors
Push to Enact "Matthew's Law"

Oceanside -- San Diego County Supervisors Bill Horn and Diane Jacobs publicly called today for the statewide enactment of "Matthew's Law". Assemblyman Steve Baldwin who is authoring the proposed legislation joined Jacobs and Horn for a press conference at the site where young Matt Cecchi was brutally murdered.

Baldwin's bill would make the murder of a child under the age of 14, a death penalty special circumstance. The two Supervisors unveiled a resolution in support of "Matthew's Law" that they will bring before the entire County Board of Supervisors for passage.

Supervisor Horn stated that, "This type of tragedy affects the entire community and shocks our nation. We have all suffered a severe loss when a young innocent life is taken by a vicious predator stalking society."

The tragic murder of 9 year old Matt Cecchi has sparked a statewide effort fueled by radio talk shows, grassroots leaders and crime victims groups for passage of the proposed legislation. Assemblyman Baldwin, was listening to KOGO's Rick Roberts Show when the host asked if any legislator would consider carrying a bill he termed "Matthew's Law"?

"Twice before, bills like 'Matthew's Law' have recently not passed the legislature," stated Steve Baldwin. "It will require an intense grassroots effort, that places a tremendous amount of pressure on the legislature and we will need the signature of a governor who is courageous enough to enact this bill and better protect our children," concluded Baldwin.
