WHAT SORTS OF STORIES SHOULD YOU SUBMIT TO TNL?

1. Submit all stories and poetry to: P.O. Box 542 Astoria, OR 97103

2. Keep stories under 2000 words or else they will be returned unread. Send one story per envelope.

3. Only submit works considered to be bizarre horror. I would appreciate it if you bought a copy of our magazine before you blindly send us a submission so you know if your work might be a good fit for us.

4. Always include a SASE. We won't answer or return your stuff if you don't.

5. Try not to be too impatient. It might be 10 to 12 months before a story gets printed. Rejections will take around 4-6 months to get back to you. You can look here if you need to keep updated on the status of your submission

6. Poetry may be short or long, but still must be of a bizarre horror nature. Send 5 poems or less per envelope.

Things I'm bored of:

- Too much sexually explicit language. Come on, let's be more creative. Sex is hardly shocking anymore these days.

- Vampires picking up humans in bars. You think that hasn't been done before? Think again.

- Something really neat and bizarre happening to someone and then at the end it turns out the person is insane and writing his story from a mental instituion or prison.

- Any story set in the middle ages and containing trolls or wizards or villagers. We are not a hobbity/fantasy kind of zine.

- Anything containing demented wolves

- War-related stories where something bizarre happens to the soldiers.

- Anything involving contemporary problems such as alcoholism, divorce, abusive stepparents, etc. I mean, these subjects should not be the main focus of the story where the whole thing is about the problem and then something bizarre happens to take the person away from the problem. If these things are instead just a side note inside an otherwise well-written bizarre story, that is fine.

Remember, I've read literally a million stories in my life. Send me something that is original enough to interest me! . Don't get discouraged by any of these guidelines. There have been lots of new authors that send me stuff that really blew me away with their creativity! I do always enjoy humor and/or satire in a story, too!
