My name is Carol...koko to some...but to my family and friends I am Carol. I recently graduated from college with a diploma in Human Services. I am proud to say I made the Dean's List, and gradated wtih the top marks for my class. While attending college, I did a three month job placement, during which I worked in a Shelter, or as I like to call it a "safe place" for abused women and their children. Hence the name of my page. Educating the public about abuse is one of my goals in life. It gives me great satisfaction to know that in some small way I may be able to help stop the senseless cycle of abuse, even if it is for only one person. I got interested in this field because a few short years ago, I was one of those abused women, but with a lot of hard work, determination and the on going support of many good friends and my family, I managed to get out and stay out and have made a wonderful new life for my son and I.
I plan to return to university in the near future and finish my BA and then go on to graduate school and get a Master's in Social Work. Education is very imortant to me and my life has been spent learning in one way or another. Either through formal education or by the things I have experienced in my life. While, I do believe that a formal education is very important today. I also believe that life is the best source of education a person can have. In fact, I have a very dear friend, who although he never had a chance to complete his formal education, he is the wisest man I have ever had the pleasure and priviledge of knowing. He has taught himself so much and continues to teach me about the computer and many other things. However, the most important things he has taught me cannot be learned in a classroom setting or out of books. For he has taught me about love, trust, life and values. I thank him and love him dearly.
I have many interests in life some of which include reading, writing poems and short stories, swimming and shooting pool. Currently, I am writing a book. The biggest interest in my life though, is my son Matthew, he is nine years old and he is my heart,my blood, my reason for living and my legacy. I enjoy spending time with him and teaching him about life and instilling in him a good set of values and a sense of responsiblility. My other passion is my computer and although I am a newbie, I love the challenge it gives me and the sense of pride I get when I accomplish something new.
So this is me. My philosophy of life is "take me as I am, don't try to change me for only I can do that, and I like me just the way I am."
