Bill Phillip's 3rd Supplement Review. The best thing about this book is that it is free. Not bad for a beginner, but not informative at all to anyone but the basic newby 9th grade kid. Definitions are sometimes helpful, but even that is missing a lot of information. This is mostly an advertisement for EAS and General Nutrition Centers.
Amino Acids and Proteins for the Athlete, by Mauro Di Pasquale If you want scientific explanations for sports nutrition, this is where to look. Di Pasquale used more than two thousand references for his book, which tries to describe how chemicals, proteins and diets can affect athletic performance. The down side is that there are absolutely no pictures. The price is steep at $50, since it is a new release and only available right now in hardcover. Where Phillips insults your intelligence, Di Pasquale makes you wish you paid more attention in science class.
