THE FOLLOWING IS TAKEN FROM A PAPER BY ROBERT YOUNG, COY descendant, Son of the American Revolution:

*The Jacob COY family emigrated from Rhineland, Germany. The parents died at sea & the children were sold into bondage to a Pennsylvania Planter to pay for their passage to America.

The following is taken from an article provided By ROBERT YOUNG, COY Descendant : "BLUEGRASS REGION VIGNETTES..KENTUCKY's HISTORIC FARMS...MADISON SESQUICENTENNIAL FARMS"

*The COYS were neighbors of the FOARE/FORD family & intermarried with these French Huguenots.

One daughter of Peter FORD, named POLLY, at abt. age 8 years, was captured at McNitt's defeat in Laurel County, Kentucky in 1786. McNitt's defeat was the worst recorded Indian massacre in Kentucky History. Polly was captured by Shawnee & Chickamaugua & sold to Miami Chief, LITTLE TURTLE. Polly & Little Turtle had a child, a son who became known as "Indian Jack".

Polly escaped from Little Chief after about 17 years. She made her way to Madison County, Ky. to claim part of her father's inheritance, which is today, part of the COY RIDGE properties.

Polly married one John PREWITT & her Indian Son took the name "John F. Prewitt" & was called "Indian Jack". He married Millie GREEN, sister of Polly GREEN, who married Samuel's son, Tandy COY in 1827.

Polly returned to TANDY FARMS after several years, with her son, Indian Jack. Polly married & Indian Jack was adopted by her new husband, John PREWITT. Indian Jack became "John John F. PREWITT & married Millie GREEN. Millie GREEN was a sister of Polly GREEN who married Tandy COY in 1827.

Tandy Farm consists of 240 acres today & with other COY FARMS total 2,320 acres of land. All acreage is actively farmed.

A CEMETARY on COY RIDGE Properties is the final resting placeof many of the early COY families & their relatives, including BROADDUS, COTTON, PREWITT & ROSS.
