School

I've completed my first year at CDIS (Center for Digital Imaging and Sound) taking a Recording Arts program. My goal is to gain the knowledge, skills and hands-on experience to succesfully produce and engineer my own music, as well as work on other projects and live sound.

My first semester consisted of these four courses;

  1. Music Theory: A general theory class on music...stuff I was already quite familiar with
  2. Digital Music Technology 100: Dealt with MIDI, Synthesizers, Sequencing etc...
  3. Recording Arts 100: Another theory class...lots of mathematical stuff, soundwaves and stuff...
  4. Recording Studio Operations 100: Learning to operate the studio, learning signal flow and multi-track recording...

My second semester consisted of these four courses:

  1. Digital Music Technology 200: Further elaboration on MIDI, focus on different forms of synthesis
  2. Recording Arts 200: A Theory class; room acoustics, recording analysis, ear training, hearing loss....
  3. Recording Studio Operations 200: Proper settings of effects and dynamic range processors, hands-on band recording projects, further familiarizing ourselves with the studio
  4. Introduction to Digital Audio Production: Learning how to use ProTools and other such software.

My third Semster I took:

  1. Audio Systems and Maintenance: Internal electronics of recording devices, repair and trouble shooting
  2. Music Income and Investment: The business side of things...
  3. Sound Reinforcement: Live Sound and more signal flow...

This coming semester I will be taking:

  1. Digital Audio Production: Using Protools, synching sound to video
  2. Digital Studio Operations: Learning how to use the digital studio in the school

The greatest part of the school is all the people I've met so far, and working on different projects with them inside and outside of class curriculum.
