Australia is a country that belongs to the continent, Oceania. It is the biggest
country in the continent. The area of Australia is 2,967,909 sq.miles. It's size
can be compared to Brazil. Australia's capital is Canberra. The three largest 
cities in Australia is Sydney, Melborn, and Brisbrain. The highest point of the
country is 2238 meters above at Mount Kosciusko and the lowest point is 16 
meters below sea level at Lke Eyre. Australia has 8 states: New South Wales, 
Western Australia, Queensland, South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, Australian
Capital Territory, and Northern Territory.

In May 1787, the first goup of convics and few soldiers port Mouth, England
for a trip to Australia. 11 ships and about 1500 men made the trip.

The dutch were the first European to visit Australia, They discovered while 
there journey through the Nether lands and the Island of Java, a dutch 
coloney in south east asia.

The first Australians were Aboriginals. The Aboriginals had lived in 
Australia for at least 40,000 years before the first white settelers 
arrived. Britain setteled in Australia as a prison coloney in 1788. Since
then, the number of whites has steadily increased and the total number of 
Aboriginals has declined. Today, the vast majority of Australia are white.

The Commonwealth of Australia is was Australia's name in the past. The 
Commonwealth of Australia is a federation of states. The nation is 
administered under a written constitution. The Australian Constitution 
gives certain powers of the federal government powers of the states. 
Australia also has a nickname, it is "Terra Australis Incognita" because 
in the medivel times there were stories about large continents in the 
southern hemisphere, but no one seen it. People wondered what it was like 
and whether it was inhabited, they called this land Terra Australis 
Incognita or The Unknown Southern Land.

Western Australia :European 1st landed there, Tazmia is an island. 

Northern Territory:Least populated and least developed part of Australia.

<center> CLIMATE </center>

The climate of Australia varies greatly, but the continent is not generally
subjected to extremes of weather because of it's insular position and lack of
striking physical features. The climate ranges from tropical (monsoonal) in the
N to temperate in the S. The tropical region, which includes about 40% of the
total area of Australia, has only two seasons: a hot, wet season with rains 
falling mainly in Febuary and March, during which the NW monsoons prevail; and
a warm, dry season characterized by the prevalence of SE trade winds. Many 
points on the N and NE coast have an average annual rainfall exceeds 2540mm 
(100 in). On the fringe of the monsoonal region are the drier savanna 
grasslands, where the low, unreliable rainfall is supplemented by artesian 
water. In central and N Australia average summer temperatures range between 26.7 
and 29.4 degrees celcius (80 and 85 degrees F). The deserts of central and W 
Australia, making up more than two-thrids of the area, have an annual rainfall 
of less than 254mm (10 in).

The warm, temperate region of S Australia have four seasons, with cool winters 
and hot summers. January and Febuary are the hottest months, with average
temperatures varying bewteen 18.3 and 21.1 degrees celcius(65 and 70 F). June
and July are the coldest months, with an average July temperature of about 10 
degrees celcius(about 50 F),except in the Australian Alps, where temperature of
1.7 degrees cecius(35 F) occur. The E coastal lowlands receive rain in all 
seasons, although mainly in summer. The warm, temperature W and S coasts receive
rain mainly in the winter months, usually from prevailing westerly winds. 
Tasmania, lying in the cool temperate zone, receives heavy rainfall from the 
prevailing westerly winds in summer and from cyclonic storms in winter. Over the
greater part of the lowlands, snow is unknown; however, in the mountains, 
particularly the Australian Alps in S New South Wales and the N part of 
Victoria, snowfall is occasionally heavy. All of the considerably.
