Orne Carruthers born November 20, 1924 was the son of Fred Carruthers of Hargrave Manitoba. Orne went to school in Hargrave and rode to school on his pony 'Mickey'. Once at school Mickey would return to the farm on her own. Orne joined the R.C.A.F in 1943 and served as a tail-gunner on Halifax heavy bombers with Squadron 432 at Skipton-on-Swale in England. He met and married Mary Crowe in England in October 1945. When they returned to Canada after the war they lived on the home farm for a year, then moved to Manson Manitoba, where Orne was a grain buyer for United Grain Grower Elevators. Orne then moved the family to Virden Manitoba and he worked in the oil fields and pipelines for years. Dad drove Oil/Salt water trucks for John Lenton Trucking of Virden. Orne spent a considerable amount of time in the sixties fighting a deadly battle with cancer. After several months of Radiation treatments the cancer was defeated. Orne fell victim to Parkinson's disease and had to retire while in his forties. Mary worked for years in the grocery store business and worked several years in the Virden Co-op store. Mary has since retired and are now living in the home that once was the Fred Carruthers home in Virden. Orne and Mary had three children: David Glen born June 19, 1947 living in Hamilton Ontario Margaret Lorena born February 7, 1950 and living in Gloversville N.Y. USA Raymond Lyle born October 14, 1954 and living in Winnipeg Manitoba
