This is my page about my time last night (April 25th, 1999)... Let me first state my love for The Smashing Pumpkins...I got Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness on my 15th birthday (I would have gotten it for Christmas, but my parents didn't get it...it was 25 days later, so who cares?) was the second cd I ever owned in my life, and REMAINS my most favourite cd (it was the first cd I ever reveiwed on my Albums Of The Week Page, and I feel is one of the greatest recordings to this day. I have seen them twice live, the first time was during the Mellon Collie tour with Garbage at the Great Western Forum on December 18th, 1996 (it was supposed to be Aug. 23rd, but with the deal with Jimmy being kicked out, and now back in, they had to push it back), and on Halloween 1998 with KISS at Dodger Stadium. And last night, April 25th, I was going to see them at The Roxy in Hollywood...but it didn't go good...here's the story....
What I guess was the main flop of it is that we didn't have tickets. My brother's frend, James is sorta like family with the owner of The Roxy, so he said he'd be able to get us in. Let me make this part clear, I wasn't trying to rip off the Pumpkins...I was PERFECTLY willing to pay the ticket, and even shave my head (because I've had it said I look a little like Billy, so why not?!?), I would have done nearly anything to get in there. My main goal wasn't to see them in such a small venue and add another niche to my show belt....I mean, I could see The Pumpkins a million times, I'd like to..but they don't come to L.A. as often as I'd wish... No, my goal for the night was three things- 1.) Meet Them. At the Halloween show, I had the chance to meet them...they were in this 1920's limo, and I walked by, and noticed the window was half down, and a bald head was sitting inside...cleaning out his ears with a Q-Tip...and I wanted to go talk to them, wish them a good show and say hello without being a bothersome fan (which in reality I am), but I couldn't because I had to get into the show... 2.) Look Billy In The Eye When He Plays. It's something to a fan I guess when the performer you love dearly looks you in the eye... and 3.) Bug Them Till They Played Mayonaise. It's my most favourite song, and they haven't played it both times I saw them...
So finally my brother comes and picks me up and we go down to his house and eat dinner, and we call James. He tells me he had a drink with Billy...and he got me his autograph..so I was jazzed. So we drove to his house and then went to Hollywood. So, anyways, we get there and James goes and asks the owner of the Roxy if he could walk us in. And he went and asked the owner, and this man sitting next to him said to James "You said that in front of the wrong person", HE WAS THE MANAGER OF THE PUMPKINS! So he takes out a cel phone, and dials up the security at the front door, and says no one gets in...so we're screwed. I wish I would have been standing there, so I could have asked the man if there was ANY way I could get in...pay the cost of the ticket, beg, plead, whatever... But I did have a great time, but it'd be cool to have seen them...I'll meet them eventually, right? Knowing me, I'll stumble upon a chance to meet them.
