Cingular GSM PCS 1900 MHz
Cingular (f.k.a. PacBell Mobile Services) started 7/3/97 in S. CA (LA, Orange, Riverside, and San Bernardino County). In 1998 PBMS changed their name to PacBell Wireless. In 1999 PacBell Wireless changed their name to Cingular. Broadcast frequency is 1900 MHz. Official data is on their webpage.

GSM (TDMA) PCS in the USA is 1900 MHz; other countries have different frequencies, most seem to be 900/1800 MHz -- check with your local carrier. Guatamala, Costa Rica, Latvia, Rep. of Georgia (USSR), Hong Kong, and Southeast Asia support 900 MHz (et al, 1800). Leave a message if you would like to import to your Country. We now carry the new dual frequency (900/1900 MHz) GSM Ericsson T28w, Nokia 8890, and Bosch World 718 which works in the USA, Europe, and most of Asia. It can be activated in the USA for cheap service while you are on vacation, then can be taken home and activated and used in your home country. (This is a tricky business, so be sure to talk to an expert or you will have a phone you cant use). You may have to purchase a SIMM card from your local carrier. We have a detailed frequency breakdown by country which I'll put on this page if enough interest is expressed.

GSM in S. CA now supports e-mail messaging, We have used this with great success, go to www.cingular.com to input a message to cingular phones and to www.nextel.com to send a message to a nextel phone. You have to go to the service providers webpage of the receiver's cellphone to send these messages, so check with your local carrier.

L.A. Cellular is now called ATT Wireless Services since ATT purchased them. Airtouch Cellular has been purchased by Vodafone of London.

Another Service provider in the LA, CA area is Verizon, www.verizon.com.

Sprint Communications PCS

Sprint PCS started service in greater LA County, USA on 28 Nov 1997. Sprint is active in most of Calif. and major Cities (see their coverage map on their url). They have recently not been competitive in price although they have advanced cellphones, unfortunately, they do not function outside of the USA. Sprint digital CDMA PCS phones are CDMA.
