Pocono Alpine Ski Educational Foundation, Inc., (PASEF) is a tax-deductible, non-profit foundation whose main objective is the support and development of student/athletes through the sport of ski racing. As a member club of the United States Ski and Snowboard Association, our purpose is to offer junior athletes a development opportunity to reach their desired goals, hopefully the United States Ski Team.
The travelling competition team is currently limited to 45 racers who are coached by USSA and PSIA certified coaches. Our head coach and President of PASEF, Inc., Gus Picariello, is dedicated to running a program where each racer receives as much individual attention as possible. Currently several slots are open and if you are interested, you should call, E-mail, or write Gus Picariello at the listings below.
Gus Picariello is a graduate of the USSA National Academy. He is a USSA Certified Coach, a PSIA Certified Instructor and a USSA Alpine Official Level IV Technical Delegate.
The PASEF coaching staff also includes John (Jack) Marhefka and Gerry Eckert, both of whom are graduates of the USSA National Academy and are Certified USSA Coaches. Gerry raced for the University of Colorado. Jack Marhefka is a graduate of UVM.
Carolyn Kazar raced for the University of Utah and is presently working on her USSA Coaching Certification. Shawn Schneider raced for St. Ansilum's College in New Hanpshire and was very active in running and coaching the Pat's Peak race program. Other coaching staff members include Jim Shober and Joe Messina, both PSIA Certified Instructors, who have extensive coaching experience, and Rich Uliana, a former USSA racer.
The team coordinates its selection and training of racers with Camelback Ski Resort's mountain racing program so that developmental racers in that program can eventually graduate to the travelling competition team.
PASEF has its training base at Camelback Ski Resort, in Tannersville, Pennsylvania. The mountain provides us with a site and venue to run ski race training and major ski racing events. Camelback's Cliffhanger Trail has been approved by the regional, national, and international alpine ski racing organizations allowing Camelback to host regional, national, and international events.
