These are all new works by our artistic director, Jack Steadman.
Your students will participate directly in the shows
both as audience members and cast members! They will be free to ask
questions in the information sessions following each performance and
they will return to the classroom with literacy games,
provided by our company and
based on the content of the show. Containing background research, crosswords, quizzes,
word searches, word scrambles, suggested reading lists and even colouring
templates for the primaries, our
LEARNING PACKAGES
get rave reviews from educators and this year they are
refined and expanded. And did I mention laughter? It is our
stock ‘n trade here at theatre essential. We use comedy as a
most powerful educational tool. Rather than get heavy or moralistic
with your students we will use comedy and laughter to reach them with
the contents of proven children’s classics....

FUDGE-A-MAINIA
Author Judy Blume is one of the great's in children's literature and Fudgie, or Farely Hatcher has to be one of her
most popular creations. She uses the adventures of her young characters to teach impertant lessons on responsibility,
family co-operation and mutual respect among siblings. By presenting such young characters
as the heroes of this drama we give children a chance to relate to the paly that is not possible
as long as the kids are watching adults. Not surprisingly plays featuring children have a unique sway
and place in the hearts fo kids everywhere.
For over two-thousand years people of all ages have cherished these stories for their simple virtue. These are imprtant and timelss lessons told in the charming context of the
natural world... Here we dramatize, "the Boy Who Cryed Wolf", "The Country Mouse and The City Mouse" and, "The Tortoise and The Hare." This package has not been seen in six years and should not
be confused with our, "More Fabulous Fables", which some of you have seen more recently. This is always a poipular choice and these stories deserve a chance to work their moral magic on the kids of today.
Melissa La Roche just wants to play hockey with the boys. She is good enough it seems, but gender
discrimination is having an effect in her small town. The coach is against it and her mom is against it.
The boys and girls of town appear to be against it, but Melissa does not give up. Eventually her intelligence
and abilities win the day and she earns her chance to compete. A lesson in fair play for all ages this show
uses our most popular sport to discuss issues of equality. This is our most participatory production ever and
will surely be talked about at your school for a very long time to come as your own students shine in important
yet simple parts. This is bound to be sheer excitement around a very important topic. We are very pleased to
offer this newest title as part of our repetoire for 2001-2002.
