1995 CLRV Roll Sign

New Streetcar Destination Signs
TTC
by Doug Shields
from TRANSFER POINTS, Vol. XXII, No. 3, April 1996

Shown below are the new exposures being added to the destination signs of the Toronto Transit Commission's 248 active streetcars [per a memo dated April 27, 1995]. These are required to incorporate the destinations for the 508 LAKESHORE rush hour service (from Long Branch via Lakeshore, the Queensway and King to downtown in the morning peak, and the reverse in the afternoon) and the 510 SPADINA line.

Route 510, renumbered from 604 on February 18, 1996, presently operates between Union Station and Spadina & Queen's Quay, but will be extended north on Spadina to Spadina Station on the Bloor-Danfoth subway in March, 1997. The "510 KING" reading refers to a planned short-turn looping running east on Adelaide, south on Peter and west on King, which will provide service closer to SkyDome events. If or when this happens is, of course, dependent on capital funding considerations.

Note that the numbers to the left of the exposures are only visible to the operator inside the car, and not from the outside.
