Inauguration of a new bus route from City Limits Terminal to the northern intersection of Yonge Street and Yonge Boulevard (the present location of the Yonge Street/Highway 401 interchange). One bus, operating on a 20:00 minute headway from 5:30 a.m. until 1:30 a.m., runs from City Limits Terminal via north on Yonge Street, east on Mill Road, north on Campbell Crescent, east on York Mills Road and north on Old Yonge Street to Yonge, then returning south to City Limits Terminal. The new route partially replaces the NORTH YONGE bus which was rerouted via Yonge Boulevard effective the same date. Although operating entirely within the Township of North York outside the city of Toronto, free transfers were included to and from zone 1 of the NORTH YONGE bus.

An elderly Twin Coach model 23-R—such as those illustrated above parked on the sports field at Hillcrest, when brand-new—was assigned to the YORK MILLS route. NORTH YONGE riders, on the other hand, were often treated to newer GMs, such as 996, pictured below.

By this date one 23-passenger Twin bus is providing a 20:00 minute service from 5:30 a.m. until 1:30 a.m.

January 10th, 1949

Service reduced to rush hours only. NORTH YONGE buses to and from Steeles Avenue operate through Hogg's Hollow when the YORK MILLS bus is not running.
