"In December 1946, the City of Toronto agreed to ban all parking during the normal day on all main thoroughfares in the downtown
area, and the [Toronto Transportation] Commission agreed to provide a Parking Area bus service into the downtown area from parking
lots south of the railway viaduct".
December 30th, 1946
Route inaugurated, operating around a clockwise loop from Harbour and Bay via north on Bay Street, east on Temperance Street, south on Yonge Street and west
on Harbour Street. Service provided daily (except Sundays and holidays) from 7:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m.
January 1st, 1947
The parking ban comes into effect.
April 1st, 1947
City of Toronto restores most of the banned parking due to pressure from downtown merchants.
July 14th, 1947
Hours of service revised, now operating from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday thourgh Friday, and from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on
Saturdays. headways are 6:00 minutes during rush hours and 7:30 minutes at other times.
The estimated cost is 21cents per passenger ($21,400 per year), resulting in a net loss of 16 cents per passenger. Operating results are
