96 WILSON Service Explained

TTC crest
From Transfer Points, Vol XV, No. 3, March 1989

Effective February 5th, 1989

With the addition of the 96K Langstaff branch to the Toronto Transit Commission's 96 WILSON route, this is now the most complicated transit route in Metro Toronto. During rush hours, three branches operate from York Mills Station:
 WILSON  96  HUMBER COLLEGE
 YORK MILLS STN.
 WILSON  96 HUMBERLINE
 YORK MILLS STN.
 W I L S O N
 VIA CLAYSON
 96 STEELES
 YORK MILLS STN.

Another three branches operate from Wilson Station:

 W I L S O N  96 HUMBER COLLEGE
 WILSON STN.
 EXPRESS
 W I L S O N
 VIA WESTON ROAD
 96 STEELES
 WILSON STN.
 W I L S O N
 VIA WESTON ROAD
 96 LANGSTAFF
 WILSON STN.

Some Clayson trips on the shoulders of the rush hour operate to or from Wilson Station:

 W I L S O N
 VIA CLAYSON
 96 STEELES
 WILSON STN.

During off-peak hours Monday through Friday, buses run on two branches from York Mills Station:

 WILSON  96  HUMBER COLLEGE
 YORK MILLS STN.
 W I L S O N
 VIA WESTON ROAD
 96 STEELES
 YORK MILLS STN.

On weekends and holidays service also operates from York Mills Station:

 WILSON  96  HUMBER COLLEGE
 YORK MILLS STN.
 W I L S O N
 VIA WESTON ROAD
 96 FINCH
 YORK MILLS STN.

During Saturday afternoon, additional short-turn service runs from Wilson Station:

 WILSON  96  JANE
 WILSON STN.

Added to the above service is Blue Night route 319 that runs daily from 2:30 a.m. to 5:30 a.m.:

 WILSON  319  HUMBER COLLEGE
 YONGE

Some very early trips operate eastbound from Islington Avenue, but it is rare to see a bus display a 96C sign, even though it is still on many roll signs.

 WILSON  96 ISLINGTON
 YORK MILLS STN.

Many years ago when the WILSON route was based at Queensway Garage, a different 96C was frequently used on trips at the end of the rush hour:

 WILSON  96 KIPLING
 YORK MILLS STN.

We hope this information makes the 96 WILSON service perfectly clear. The next time you take a Wilson bus, you'll know which branch is yours.

Note that the letter "I" is not used to designate a branch in order to avoid confusion with the number "1".

The above information is drawn from Toronto Transit Commission maps, TTC Headlights—now called Rider News—and pocket timetables in both the Toronto Transportation Society's and the author's collection.

Can you help with our Route Histories? Our sources do not detail the many short turn services operated on some of the longer routes during the 1950s and 1960s. Many of these routes also operated both local and express services at rush hours. Specific routes that we require help with are 7 BATHURST, 29 DUFFERIN, 32 EGLINTON WEST, 34 EGLINTON EAST, 41 KEELE, 59 NORTH YONGE and 86 SCARBOROUGH. If you can help, please contact Jeffrey Kay at a Society meeting, by e-mail at jeffrey_kay@hotmail.com, or regular mail care of the Toronto Transportation Society at
