81 THORNCLIFFE PPARK Route History

On October 27th, 1964, the Commission received a report requesting an east-west connection to the Yonge subway from Thorncliffe Park, even though origin-destination surveys revealed that 85% of passengers traveled south to the Danforth using 8B BROADVIEW service. Although it would be physically impossible at Davisville and extremely difficult at St. Clair to add another bus route (due to a lack of space), the Commission instructed that a trial service be operated to St. Clair Station effective with the next board period.

November 29th, 1964

A new route running from St. Clair Station via Pleasant Boulevard, Avoca, St. Clair, Welland, Moore, Southvale, Millwood and Overlea, looping along Thorncliffe Park Drive clockwise in the morning and counter-clockwise in the afternoon. Service provided every 15:00 minutes during rush hours, 20:00 minutes midday, five days a week.

Route combined with 88 SOUTH LEASIDE. Buses run via Bayview and Sutherland, with service removed on Southvale between Bayview and Millwood.

February 26th, 1966

Route reinstated, now running from the new Pape station via Pape Avenue, Leaside Viaduct, Millwood and Overlea to loop around Thorncliffe Park Drive and return. Replaces 8B BROADVIEW and 88A SOUTH LEASIDE service. Operated by Eglinton Garage.
