20 CLIFFSIDE Route History

July 1st, 1954

New Toronto Transit Commission zone 1 and 2 route called CLIFFSIDE, replacing Danforth Bus Lines' TORONTO - STOP 12 service, running from Luttrell Loop via east on Danforth Avenue, north on Birchmount Road, east on Highview, north and east on McIntosh, south on Midland Avenue and west on Kingston Road to Danforth. Initially operated by TTC personnel from Woodbine garage (the former Hollinger Bus Lines garage at the south-east corner of O'Connor & Woodbine).

November 25th, 1956

Assigned route number 20. Four buses operate a 9:00 minute headway over the 6.2 round trip miles (36 minutes trip time) during rush hours, and two buses take 30 minutes each at all other times on 15:00 minute headways.

In conjunction with the opening of the new subway extensions, buses rerouted from Main Street station via south on Main, east on Danforth, north on Birchmount, east on Highview, north on Kennedy Road, east on Park and south on Midland looping counterclockwise via Danforth Road and Wolf.

February 3rd, 1969

New 20A"Warden" branch inaugurated, running from Main Station via south on Main, east on Danforth, north on Warden Avenue and east on St. Clair Avenue to Warden Station. No Saturday late evening, Sunday or holiday service.

Service note: 60-minute round trip time on the "Midland" branch, and 30-minute round trip time on the "Warden" branch. Buses run every 15:00 minutes during rush hours, and on 20:00 minute headways at all other times.

To avoid the left turn from Danforth Avenue to Birchmount, all eastbound buses rerouted via Danforth, east on Parkette (just south of Danforth) and north on Birchmount to route.

November 22nd, 1980

In conjunction with the subway extension to Kennedy Station, 20 CLIFFSIDE buses rerouted at the east end to Kennedy Station via north on Midland and west on Eglinton Avenue. No change to 20A routing or schedule.
