Quinceañera Celebrations

QUINCEAÑERA Basic Requirements

Quinceañera

The Quinceañera is a time of celebration; a time that marks a coming of age. When one prepares for the celebration of a Quinceañera, many preparations are required: the food, the color schemes, the guest list, but none of these are so important as the church service. In this ceremonial event, a young girl's family and friends are gathered together to witness her debut into the community as a young woman. In order to fully experience this event, other preparations are required prior to the actual ceremony. The Quinceañera should be preceded by the completion of the Sacraments of Initiation: The Sacrament of Baptism, the Sacrament of First Eucharist and the Sacrament of Confirmation. Celebrating one's Quinceañera in a church service is a visible confirmation of Christian belonging. This preparation can take up to three years so plan early and seek counselling to discuss how to arrange for completion of these sacraments. This event is no more a single event in one's life than a Baptism or a Wedding is a single event. The life of a Christian flows through each and every event...a process of the Christian's way of life.

Will you continue in the apostle's teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of the bread, and in the prayers?
Will you perservere in resisting evil and whenever you fall into sin, will you repent and return to the Lord?
Will you proclaim by word and example the good news of God in Christ?
Will you seek to serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?
Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?

The commitment you make as a Christian is returned to you by the Christian fellowship of St. Mary's. As a member of the Catholic community and your parish family, you should expect support, encouragement and faith from them in return, in every step of your life in faith, from the Baptismal event and through every event after!!
