A little about Lowriders
Lowriders are Custom-cars. They are vehicles with
elaborate paint jobs and hefty hydraulic systems (powered by extra batteries).
Lowriding originated among Hispanics who found post-World War II employment in
California's heavy industries; expressions of their newfound status
included adapting the suspensions of Chevrolets and Fords, putting the
cars distinctively-and perilously-close to the ground. The '60s brought
improvised, heavy-duty hydraulics of the type still used to create
fearsome lunging motions (hydraulic systems are now prepackaged
along with complex switching systems).
Lowriders have their own magazine ,one would be Lowrider Magazine, and a
network of clubs that belies the image of lowriding as a gang-banging
accessory; on the circuit of well-organized, lavishly catered arena
exhibition shows, any number of Chevy Impalas, bombas (restored
vintage cars), and customized minitrucks are paraded, some "dancing"
to music. Lowriding is no longer the exclusive purview of Latinos (as is
often proved by gangsta rap videos) or unique to California.p>
