HARTLAND BRIDGE
Here's a picture of the Hartland Bridge
It's said to be the longest covered bridge in the world. It's certainly a sight to see. Built before cars were so popular, driving across it causes some anxious moments. We visited the bridge in July 1997 when our friends the Watsons came to visit us from California. Daniel and I had visited before with our friend Maria and wanted to share the experience with Dennis, Darlene, and Jim.

Isn't it a beautiful sight !

The sign above the entrance to the bridge gives a brief description. Because the bridge is so narrow, you have to wait until traffic coming from the other side gets across before you go on. When you look down while driving across, you can see the river between the planks where the black top has worn off. Evidently sometime in the less distant past, they paved over the planks.

We drove across the bridge to a park. Signs at the park give a history of the bridge. Here Dennis, Jim, Daniel and Darlene walk from the park to the river. In the background you can see the newer bridge, not as scenic but better suited for cars.
When we reached the river, Daniel threw rocks into it while Jim watched. You can see the bridge's pylons at the top of the picture.

Captured a little "nature"
by the river. Enjoying the day, I basked in its beauty. I'm sure we'll take everyone who visits us to view this gorgeous sight.
I guess the locals don't appreciate it as much as I do. When Daniel, Maria and I stopped at the border when we went, the border guard asked where we were headed.
"To Hartland," I said.
" Why would you want to go to Hartland? " he asked.
If he only knew!
