The Wichita Eagle, Wichita, KS: Staff Writer, Communities team, Sept. 1999-present.

• Responsible for covering the activities of the 80 or so neighborhood associations in Wichita, as well as citizen participation groups like the District Advisory Boards and Citizen Participation Organizations.

• Also responsible for covering youth sports around Wichita, including Biddy Basketball, Junior League Football and little league baseball and softball.

• Writing and doing copy editing on Nuestra Voz, the Eagle’s monthly Spanish-language edition.

PREVIOUS PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

KNSD-TV, San Diego, Calif.: Production Assistant/Writer, July-Sept. 1999.

• Responsible for running teleprompter on various newscasts, archiving logs, taking national feeds and writing stories for Saturday and Sunday newscasts.

INTERNSHIPS

The UNITY News, UNITY journalism conference: Staff writer, July 1999.

•Joined 39 student journalists from across the country in covering the conference, held in Seattle, Wash.

• Presstime Magazine, 1999 NAA Convention.

Wrote stories for a special issue of the Newspaper Association of America's trade magazine during their national convention in Coronado, Calif. Covered The Associated Press' actual meeting, as well as sessions dealing with E-commerce and reader retention strategies.

•The Wichita Eagle, Wichita, Kans., Summer 1998

Worked as a general assignment reporter for the Leisure team, which covered entertainment around Wichita. But also covered stories ranging from the state Special Olympics meet to post-traumatic care for survivors of the DeBruce Grain elevator explosion.
