Blue Night in Seoul, Last Hope. This map is really a favorite for korean starcraft players. The Korean style of starcraft is a little different strategy wise but mostly all of the experts are korean and prefer this map. You can get the most minerals from this map, but they enclose your base and you have no space to build any buildings because the map is covered in resources. Still, a very popular map.

Fastest Map Ever. The unique thing about this map is it uses a special editor to put minerals right next to your base to allow you to mine faster. The minerals sort of get in your way though and again, there is not enough space to build. However this map is very popular and good for fast mineral accumulation. The strength of this map is for rushing; you can get minerals faster than anyone else and while other people are busy mining, you can assemble a group of troops and attack before you're opponent is ready.

The Best Map Ever. No real advantages to the other maps but it remains popular for some reason. The design looks pretty cool but again, it lacks space to build structures. This map is just a popular variation of the blue night in seoul design but it's popularity makes it a necessary download.

Green Hunter. Was very popular a few years ago but not seen that much anymore. This map is very unique in that instead of knowing exactly how to get to your enemies, the middle of the map is a sort of maze so it's hard for ground units to attack. This map is kind of cool and worth the download.

World's Smallest 8 Player. This map is meant for people who don't want long games. The map is so small that you could effectively send all your troops including your workers to attack and still have time to rebuild. I don't particularly like this map or recommend it to newbies, but it remains popular none the less.

3v3 Shared Base. This is a special map for if you want to play games where you share a base with your allies. It's a different kind of game favoring protoss and terran races but still a cool challenge.

World's Best 4 Player. An excellent map in my opinion. Folks, the name doesn't lie. This IS the world's best 4 player map!!!

Apocalypse Now. Good 4 player map. The strange thing about this map is it is all open terrain. No choke points, a lot of expansion. The real skill is deciding when to expand. Expand too early and you won't have any troops to defend. Too late and you won't have enough minerals.

Pangea. A novelty map not really for battling. This is just a starcraft map modeled after a world map. It has minerals and gas but it's not ideal for fighting because different continents are different sizes so mineral distribution is uneven. But it's still cool to look at!

Bombs Over Baghdad. In my opinion, the best map out there. Especially if you like playing under the Zerg, Bombs Over Baghdad is great for building fast. The best thing about this map is that you can accumulate minerals FAST! There is a natural expansion site right under your starting position. You basically have unlimited mining centers and five easy access vespene geysers. And the resources never run out so you don't have to worry about looking for expansions.
Big Game Hunters. An absolute classic and a favorite of everyone on battle.net. Although this is by far the most popular map on battle.net, it definitely has its faults. On the positive side, it has a natural expansion spot for each starting location but protecting it can often be a hassle. If you're planning to play competitively on battle.net, this map is definitely a must have.
