Morihei Ueshiba O'Sensei
Morihei Ueshiba O'Sensei Born: 14th Dec, 1883Trained in Judo, Ju-Jitsu, Ken-Jitsu and Aiki-Jutsu. Before creating Aikido just after the war! O'Sensei's great grandfather (Kichiemon) was a strong samurai and O'Sensei's dad Yoroki would tell the young Morihei the famous stories of his grandfather! His father also encourage Morihei, quite weak when young, to take up sumo wrestling and swimming but it wasn't really until Morihei enlisted in the military that he became physically strong. After leaving the military O'Sensei met Daito-ryu Aiki Jutsu Grand Master Sokaku Takeda and really consentrated on training! He left Takeda when he heard of his father's illness but arrived home to late - his father had died! He then sold off his fathers land and moved to study with Deguchi Onisaburo in the new Omoto-kyo religion! Deguchi was an advocate of non-violent resistance and he realised O'Sensei was on earth to teach budo, which he did for many years! In 1942 it is said that O'Sensei had a divine command and he moved to the village of Iwama where he built a house and a dojo. This is where the word aikido started to be used! He lived and trained in Iwama until his death on April 26th, 1969! His last instructions were "Aikido is for the entired world. Train not for selfish reasons, but for all people everywhere." I believe O'Sensei had a vision that Aikido will bring people together and will continue doing so in the future.
