Takemusu Iwama Aikido Europe

Takemusu Iwama Aikido Europe was set up in June 1990 by Sensei Tony Sargeant (first principal) and Sensei Paul Mcglone (second principal). This was after visting a seminar where they were approched by a top sensei advising them to set up their own organisation and they did so.

Takemusu Iwama Aikido GB follows the teaching of O'Sensei through Saito Sensei, who was the O'Sensei's longest serving student. The organisation follows Saito Sensei's teaching of the principle of Aiki Ken and Aiki Jo as key to Aikido training.

The organisation gained offical recognition from Saito Sensei in 1994. Since then it has grown to over 600 members.

There are Takemusu Iwama Aikido GB clubs throughout the UK. To find a listing of all the Iwama Clubs please go to Iwama Clubs

There is also Iwama Ryu organisation in Russia who follow the teachings of Saito Sensei through Sensei Sargeant and Sensei McGlone, you can find more information on the Russia Iwama Ryu site which is in our links section.

The organisation has regular seminars, courses and uchi deshi and even hosts large seminars like the Hitohiro Saito Sensei Seminar in Feb 2004.

Sensei Sargeant hosted the first Korina Aikido Club, Kefalonia Uchi Deshi in Sept 2005 and it was fantastic, the mix of the beautiful island of Kefalonia and the intense training made it a great course. The next Uchi Deshi are in June 2006 and Sept 2006.
