About the Hakama

the hakama Hakama are a type of traditional Japanese clothing. Skirt like the hakama is tied at the waist and can either be divided or undivided which refers to a divide at the bottom of the hakama.

Hakama were orginally worn by the Samurai as a means of protecting their clothing. Hakama have seven deep pleats, two on the back and five on the front. The pleats are supposed to represent the virtues considered essential by the samurai.

It is very important to mention the folding of the Hakama. It is tradition to take time and care over this act. There are two ways to fold a Hakama traditionally the standard fold and the travellers fold.
