NEWS

On June 27th 'Skin' celebrated it's first birthday in style. Fist it went to spoons for a plethora of vodka based beverages before moving on to some trendy bars in the Arcadian. About half ten it got the bright idea of going to Phil's restaurant and saying hello. Nine pizzas later and about twelve bottles of wine late it staggered out and fell in the canal. It was last seen being tied naked to a lamp post by by the 72 hour benchathon.

BIG shout out to the cast and crew. The TC's performance went down a storm. The audience came out full of praise and we raised £250 to boot. This together with the money from the benchathon (looking at being between £450-£500 with sponsorship) sends us well on our way with the money.

It's one month until we travel up to Edinburgh and just three weeks before we enter the final rehearsal phase. Hope you're all ready for it! There will be a general pack on information going up concerning logistics for the rehearsals and the trip up in the next fortnight. Watch this space!!!!

If you have not paid your full £200 it is imperative we receive it by July 23rd at the latest. Please include your passport photo if you have not already sent us one.

New Information from the venue:
This is the text of an e-mail sent by the venue to use and which we circulated amongst you.

"The 2003 Fringe is almost upon us, and it is time for us to send you important information about your arrival in Edinburgh: things you must do beforehand, when you arrive, and during the Festival. The information following is extremely important, please read it carefully and ensure it has been read by all members of your company.

Preparations you should make
Of course you will have been making many preparations, but to remind you of some particular matters that we are concerned with:

·        Make sure you can pay the balance of your slot hire fee: if you pay by cheque we will present it to the bank the next day.

·        Make sure you have arranged public liability insurance: we will require to see your certificate before you may perform

·        If you are bringing any electrical equipment which you expect to use in our venues, you must have a PAT certificate or equivalent certification of electrical safety before we let you plug it in.

·        Make sure you know your contact details for while you are in Edinburgh. You will need to tell us when you arrive in Edinburgh

·        If you are using any copyright music at all in your show (whether live or pre-recorded), you will need to prepare a list of all the music you are using: we will require you to fill this in on the PRS form when you arrive.

·        Prepare a press pack that we can give to journalists who ask for information about your show.

·        Collect passport photos of everyone with your company in Edinburgh, so we can make your backstage passes. If possible send these to us by the 23rd July.

When you arrive
You should have by now had details of the time for your technical rehearsal. It will be on the 1st, 2nd or 3rd August if you are performing in Week 1, the 11th if you begin in week 2, or the 18th if you begin in week 3. Your studio, and the stage manager assigned to you for that day, are at your disposal for that time, so please make sure you arrive in good time: we will not allow you to overrun.

We will do our best to find somewhere to store your set, though we cannot guarantee this (we have always managed to do so up to now). Please remember that we have several sets to stow for each studio, so we will designate where your set will be stored, and it is possible that we will not do so until all the shows in that Studio have had their technical rehearsals and we can see how much space each needs. Please be patient.

During this time the person acting as your Administrator or Company Manager must come to the Office downstairs in Augustine's to complete various items of paperwork:

-         final instalment of slot hire fee

-         insurance certificate

-         PAT test certificates, if appropriate

-         Contact numbers in Edinburgh

-         Press pack and publicity material

-         PRS form (copyright music)

-         Backstage passes.

-         Mail

-         Collect health and safety details to pass on to your company

If you arrive in Edinburgh before the scheduled day, you are welcome to come in and say hello to us, and deliver publicity material if you wish; but please be aware that we will be busy running or preparing the venue. Please do not be offended if we are cannot give you very much attention, especially during the week before the Festival starts.

Unloading at the venues
Access for unloading equipment and sets is as follows:

Augustine's
Most companies will unload at the back door, in Merchant Street, which is off Candlemaker Row. You can normally enter Candlemaker Row only from the top, turning left off Forrest Road; then take the first right turn, under the bridge, and the back door of Augustine's is at the very end, on the right hand side.

The access inside the building from this door is up a flight of stairs to the Studio, and a second flight of stairs to the Sanctuary. If you have a particularly bulky or heavy set, it may be possible to unload at the front door, in George IV Bridge, but you must arrange this in advance with Richard Chapman.

Greyfriars Kirk House:
The Kirk House is at the bottom of Candlemaker Row, on the left. You can normally enter Candlemaker Row only from the top, turning left off Forrest Road. If there is space, you may be able to turn into the yard just after the Kirk House for unloading; but otherwise you will need to stop in Candlemaker Row outside the building (make sure you leave space for buses to get round the island beyond)

Parking and Traffic Restrictions
Parking is not allowed in Candlemaker Row, Merchant Street, or George IV Bridge at all during the day Monday - Saturday. You should be all right unloading, as long as you are placed sensibly, but you will not be able to leave your vehicle in any of these streets on weekdays; nor can we provide you spaces to park.

In addition, please note that it is not possible to get any vehicle to the front of Augustine's any evening, because of the traffic arrangements for the Edinburgh Tattoo; and that during the day on Sunday 3rd the Festival Cavalcade will parade through town and make it extremely difficult to drive around the centre of Edinburgh at all: we are awaiting details of the traffic restrictions from the Council.

This may mean that you need to drop of your scenery or costumes at an earlier time.

Display of Publicity Material
Please leave a small number (15 to 20 A4) your posters in the office when you arrive: if your scheduled time is late on Sunday or Monday, it would be helpful if you could bring these in earlier in the day. Our publicity team will create and maintain poster displays inside and outside both venues.

If you have suggestions, or think that your display needs attention, please talk to the House Manager rather than changing the display yourself.

You are welcome to leave around 50 of your fliers in the places provided in the Kirk House Café and the Hungry Hippo areas.

Do's and Don't's During the Festival
·        Do make sure your cast are assembled in good time for every performance.

·        Do wear your backstage pass when you are in the venue and not in costume.  Anyone without a pass will be refused entry to the backstage areas.

·        Do fill in a Complimentary Ticket form if you want to authorise any Company Comps - we will not issue any unless you tell us to in writing.

·        Do remember that you are sharing the venue with other companies, and be considerate to them. Especially remember that when your show is out, there may be another show in progress in the other Studio: keep the noise down.

·        Do please treat our staff with consideration: while many of them are very experienced, and all have been trained for the job they are doing, they are volunteers who come because they love theatre and the Fringe. If something is unsatisfactory please speak to the House Manager, who will take suitable action.

·        Do treat the building and equipment carefully, especially in Augustine's

·        Do keep the dressing room as clean and tidy as is practical

·        Do look after your property. We will do all we can to deter intruders, but the fact is that the venues (especially Greyfriars Kirk House dressing room) are not secure, and we cannot be liable for any loss. In Augustine's help us by making sure you close the back door after you use it.

·        Do collect your box office takings and your mail regularly.

·        Don't make any offer or arrangement for your tickets (2 for 1, free vouchers, discount, etc.) without telling us first. We will comply with any reasonable request, but we have to know!

·        Don't expect us to fit more people in your audience than we are licensed for, or tell people we will fit them in somehow. We'll do our best, but we cannot issue more tickets than our licence allows.

·        Don't do anything which may jeopardise safety or our licence, such as blocking fire exits, adding untreated fabric to your set, or using flames in a way that the Firemaster has not authorised.

·        Don't leave food or wrappers anywhere, but especially not in the backstage areas of any studio.

·        Don't bring alcohol into the venues, except for use on stage.

·        Don't smoke in the venues.

·        You are welcome to make use of our office facilities in Augustine's - computers (word processing, e-mail, internet), photocopies, laminator. The charges for these services are posted in the office.

·        You are welcome to assemble in the public areas, such as the Kirk House Café and the Hungry Hippo, but please don't crowd out the public who are coming to see the shows.

·        You are welcome to take a stack of our brochures and distribute these along with your own fliers, when you go out publicising your show.

Party time!
We like to give our staff and companies the chance to meet and socialise together outside of the venue, so PGP have book parties at Frankenstein's pub on George IV Bridge (opposite Augustine's) on the three Sundays of the Fringe (10th 17th and 24th) from 10pm. Everyone is invited but the pub has a strict over 18's only rule and asks for ID on the door. Also in past years our staff and companies have congregated in the Greyfriars Bobby pub at the top of Candlemaker Row in the evenings. We would be delighted if you joined us there or elsewhere.

Reciprocal Tickets and Programmes
We operate a Reciprocal Ticket system, whereby we issue unsold tickets free to members of any company in either of our venues (and to our own staff). If your members want to make use of this facility, they must bring their backstage pass to the appropriate box office, and be prepared to wait until the last moment. They must obtain a ticket before they can go in to see the show.

We understand that many companies will wish to distribute programmes to the audience. You are welcome to do so, but please do not ask us either to store them or to hand them out.

Fundraising

As part of our fundraising program we have decided to go ahead with our Marathon bench habitation, and the Guild have given us clearance to use mermaid square, moving to opposite S.T.A. travel during guild nights.

Following our meeting on 16/5/03 the company decided, due to exams and organisational feasibility to stage this project during the June rehearsal period, rather than the last week in May. It was also decided that the event will be stage across the following dates:

Thursday June 12th - Saturday June 14th. This was deemed more efficient for the following reasons:

1) Maximum public exposure because on the evening of each of these days is one of the Guild nights.

2) Allows the company to rehearse while simultaneously drawing interest in the pursuit of those rehearsals.

3)Does not conflict with revision/exam time table.

4)Provides a longer time window to promote the event and to find sponsors.

CONTINUE TO CHECK THIS SITE FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.

Below is a link to download a copy of the sponsorship form for this ,and other Three Bugs events. Please try and get £50 worth of sponsorship.

Sponsorship Form

Our fundraising performance at the end of the rehearsal period has changed venue. it shall now be at TC's on coronation road, Selly Oak and shall happen as part of Bumtit. We felt this was a better idea as it is more likely to draw in a bigger crowd etc... and is more cost effective as the Pare would charge a lot for the hire of an amp.
