Homepage Buttercream Icing
1/2 cup solid vegetable shortening
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract
4 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons milk
Cream butter and shortening with mixer. add vanilla. Gradually add sugar, one cup at a time, beating well on medium speed. Scrape sides and bottom of bowl often. When all sugar is added, add milk and mix until light and fluffy.
Makes 3 cups.

For Chocolate Buttercream Icing add 3 oz. melted unsweetened chocolate and 1 more tablespoon of milk to Buttercream Icing Recipe.
