in 1984 Ivan Stambolic became leader of Serbia's communist party, made milosevic cheif of the local party organization in Belgrade.
Appeared before a riotous crowd on April 24, 1987, where he promised them "No one will ever beat you again!" and ganed support
in september of 1987, he took control of the republic's communist party from Stambolic.
