The first North Pacific season opener with a rare North East direction slammed
the Hawaiian Islands with face wave heights reaching over 45' and maybe bigger
in other locations. What was so unusual was the direction of the swell which
only happens every decade as stated and surfed by some of the heavy Hawaiian
towsurfers like Archie Kalepa, Buzzy Kerbox, Garrett McNamara, Ikaika Kalama,
Dan Moore, Mark Anderson, Victor Lopez, Ron Barron and his partner Greg.
Also
in the mix but on their own mission, was the Laird camp. This included Dave
Kalama, Darrick Doerner and Jerry Lopez who were filming a segment for 60
minutes. Needless to say, all of the teams scored hard and for most, it was non
stop towing for 4 straight days.
