Guimbal is a fourth class but a clean, peaceful, progressive and most business friendly municipality with a land area of 4,461 hectares, 29 kilometers away from Iloilo City and composed of thirty-three (33) barangays, 22 rural barangays located in the poblacion area. This small town which places second (year 2000, 2001) in the provincial level "clean and green program" of the national government and its police station awarded as the best "PNP Station of the Year" (2000) and was chosen as the "Most Business Friendly Local Unit" in the province of Iloilo with six other municipalities surrounding it, namely, Oton and Tigbuan on the North-East, Igbaras and Tubungan on the North-West and Miag-ao and San Joaquin on the South-West that comprise the First Congressional District. This locale, a coastal town, 6 feet above sea level, having nine (9) kilometers shoreline facing the blue waters of Panay Gulf has attracted tourists form different places because of its famous and beautiful beaches and inland resorts like the Shamrock Beach Resort, Bantayan Beach Resort (Department of Tourism Awardee as the "Best Beach Resort in Western Visayas). Guimbal, known to be producing the sweetest fruits like the sineguelas and kamunsil. Farming and fishing is the main source of livelihood of the residents. Guimbal is proud to have maintained to be self-sufficient in agriculture. | |

A
Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council
has been formed, strengthened and made operative up to barangay level
for the purpose of providing immediate and protective assistance in
times of calamities such as fires, typhoons, earthquakes, etc. Barangay
Human Rights and Action Officer
(BRHAO)
in each barangay was also organized to facilitate the needs of human
rights victims.
The Guimbal Multi-Purpose Gymnasium with a capacity of 6,000 peoplewill not only accommodate social and cultural gatherings in the municipality but will also make Guimbal the center of sports activities in Southern Iloilo. Development of Guimbal will surely be enhanced due to the support of basic utilities present in the municipality: a.) power - presence of ILECO-1 (Iloilo Electric Cooperative) which energizes almost the entire municipality; b.) water services - the Guimbal Rural waterworks and Sanitation Administration (GRWSA) serves about 85% of the households in the entire poblacion area. Other barangays in the whole municipality is equipped with jetmatic pumps, deep wells and dug wells; c.) transportation services - Guimbal to Iloilo City is about 30 minutes ride only. It has a good access to transportation because of its strategic location at southern coast of Iloilo. Almost all barangays is served by other provincial and municipalities PUJ's and buses that pass through the municipality and by approximately 400 tricycles and motorbikes and motorbikes plying on their respective routes within the municipality. d.) telecommunication services - Daily local and national newspapers can easily reach the municipality. The existence of PLDT public calling station, services of ISLACOM and SITELCO telephone companies made further telecommunications easy. The presence of Bureau of Telecommunications and the LGU Guimbal-owned Based Radio facilities, the Bureau of Post is effectively serving the whole town. Globe and Smart Cellphone companies had already ercted their cell-site transmitters. Service of Cable TV system is also available. |
