Whaling: a word which means “The practice of hunting, killing, and processing whales.” Some people are strongly for it to keep happening; some people are strongly against it.

Whaling began many years ago, around 4000. There have been many fights and conflicts about this matter, some people thinking that it was trivial.
IT’S NOT! After some years of whaling, several people came to realise that whales were becoming harder and harder to find. (All this was happening in about 1932-33, in response to the oil-market collapsing rapidly) People were becoming worried that whales might finally come to be extinct, and decided to form an association to help whales. This association was called the International Whaling Commission (IWC), and established in about 1938.

The people that were within the club were all representees from 17 different nations, and the first attempts were made to regulate and restrict the act of whaling.

Jumping ahead to 1980’s now, the IWC applies a moratorium on commercial whaling, ultimately seeing that whales were fast becoming destroyed.
Ever since the 1980’s, people have been more aware of the damage that they are doing to beautiful animals. Although there are still a small number of people whaling, we are lucky in that majority of the world know that whaling is wrong.
