Characterictics

The leaf petiole, and traps exhibit dark burgundy coloration, with little to almost no green coloration. The entire trap, interior and exterior is dark burgundy throughout the year. Only the developing leaves or trap may exhibit slight green coloration. Requires full sunlight to attain full burgundy coloration, otherwise the traps will be deep green and may resemble a green dragon. Mature plants produce traps that are large, reaching 2.5cm in size.  Akai Ryu usually produces ground hugging rosetted petioles all year round.

Produced by Atlanta Botanical Gardens, it is an essential cultivar to the VFT enthusiast.
