The Right Way to Format
Step 1: Make sure you have a Startup Disk or an Operating System CD (Windows CD).
Step 2: Put the CD or disk into the computer and restart it.
Step 3: A Windows setup screen should appear. When you are here, cancel out of the setup.
Step 4: After cancelling out, you should see a command prompt that looks like this
When you are here, type in "format c:" and hit Enter.
Step 5: After you hit enter you will see a screen like this -
At this screen, hit Y and then Enter.
Step 6: When it is done formatting (100%) then you will see a message that looks like this -
Volume label (11 characters, ENTER for none)?
Step 7: After formatting, with the CD or disk in the computer, restart the computer and follow the instructions on how to Install Microsoft Windows.
