NCAA Football (Division 1-A)

Making sense of all those numbers.

Talent: Is there a bias in recruiting rankings?

Raw Data

The raw data provides more example of bias against the Big East. When the average rank for recruiting and the average Sagarin rank for each conference is calculated, the numbers match up very well for each conference—except the Big East:

Average Recruiting Rank

Average Sagarin Rank

ACC

32

34

Big 12

33

31

Big East

52

33

Big Ten

37

42

PAC 10

31

32

SEC

23

25

All of the conferences besides the Big East finish--according to Sagarin--close to where they should finish—according to how Rivals evaluates their talent. Only vastly superior coaching and/or vastly underrated talent could lead to such a discrepency between predicted results and actual results.
