1. What is BPL Tennis?

BPL Tennis is Belgrave Premier League Tennis.

2. How does the point system work?

If you defeat your opponent you will gain 10% of his points. This value will also be deducted from the player who has lost. For example, if both players have 500 points then the winner will now have 550 points and the loser left with 450 points. Players will be ranked by the number of points they have.

3. Why have the point system?

The reason for this method is so there is a greater reward if you beat a player with a higher number of points and probably a tougher opponent. So, if you beat a person with 700 points you will get 70 points and if you beat someone with 200 points you will only earn 20 points.

4. Can a player reach no.1 without playing the current no.1?

This is correct. If you gain enough points to surpass the current no.1 then you will overtake that player. This seems unfair, however, the onus is upon the leading player to defeat these players with higher points to retain their top position. A player with high number of points but not necessarily the best player cannot sustain at the top since they will be attractive to defeat since you will get more points out of them so eventually they will fall back to a more realistic level.

5. Who can I play?

There is enough freedom  to play whoever you want but you will have to take in to account the number of points since you would try to get the highest number of points from each game. Players should usually play people either side of their rank but a lower ranked player can challenge a much high ranked player but the higher ranked player is not obliged to play but he can agree to the match if they choose to. However, you are limited to the amount of play someone who is not directly either side of your ranking i.e. more than one place above or below you. Number 2 ranking can play number 1 and number 3 ranked player as many times as they wish but this person playing a 4th ranked player cannot play them more than once in a row, this is to ensure you don't inflate your score artificially.

6. In this system if I do not play for a period of time could I be lowered in rank?

If you do not play then anything can happen depending on the situation. If the player below gains lots of points and you do not play him to try to decrease his points or do not play to gain points to keep your position then you could loose your rank. But if the player above you looses a few games they could drop below you and your rank will rise! That player might want to play yourself to climb up again and if you continue to refuse to play then the match will be counted as a forfeit and you will loose your points.

7. Do I have to play 5 set matches?

The players are given the choice of whether they play best of 3 or 5 sets. This must be agreed between both players before the match begins. If you agree to play 5 sets but cannot complete the match you cannot change the game to 3 sets or continue the match another day. If this happens you will have to abandon the match if both players players cannot carry on or someone will have to forfeit. You still get 10% despite the number of sets you decide to play. If it happens to rain, then the match will have to unfortunately be abandoned unless you want to carry on, be sure to check the weather before you go.

8. Will there be any tournaments or cups?

There is obviously the position of no.1 rank but in addition there will be cups created in the near future and tournaments organised. The tournaments will be varied in style, they could be seeded, 5 sets or less but the games will affect points as usual.

9. When I win or lose, where do I submit the score?

To keep it simple, whoever wins will have the responsibility of submitting the score, and this can be done either by emailing it to Shyam at shyamo@gmail.com or Mayur at mighty_mayur@hotmail.com, or by text messaging Shyam or Mayur on their usual cellphone numbers. In the future we hope to add a submitting page on the website to keep it automated and updated directly. The game score will also be needed and not just who wins and loses, this is so statistics can be produced.

If you have further questions you can email us at the addresses above.
