The Robinsons, along with Glorybee, are just the cutest thing to happen to New Orleans since Turtle Search disbanded and left me broken hearted. The Robinsons play hook-filled, punky pop songs in a city seemingly otherwise void of catchy pop music. (The fact that they're actually from Chalmette makes them even more of an anomaly.)

I'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite track from Cool Down, but it would probably be "The Lucky One," a song with nice boy/girl harmonies. Or maybe "Pulling Strings" with its lovelorn lyrics, "I've tried and tried to get through to you/But you're too hard to impress." Hmm. Or maybe "She Likes the Beatles," which namechecks obvious influences for the band - The Beatles, Beach Boys, and Weezer.

Ahh, screw it. I love every single song on this CD. In fact, I love it so much that I don't want to give it back to the station after I'm finished reviewing it. (Can you guys send another one? Hee.) My only complaint about the CD is that it's a really lo-fi recording. I know, how un-indie of me. Once the first song gets going, though, I don't notice that too much and I just get into the music.

So if you see a redhead driving around the city streets, bobbing her head around like an idiot and singing along, it's probably me...listening to The Robinsons.
