5/29/01-Possible Limited Edition POP Single. Their is a Limited Edition single of "Pop" that will be coming out on June 12th. It might be in just Canada but I just thought I would let you know.
5/28/01-98 Degrees, Jessica Simpson, and Britney were at the *NSYNC show in Hershey, PA this weekend.
5/28/01-*NSYNC's "Pop" Hits Number 21. *NSYNC's latest, "Pop" crashes into The Hits at No. 21, registering the band's second highest debut ever.
The only other *NSYNC single to enter higher was its first No. 1 hit, "Bye, Bye, Bye," which began its chart run at No. 15 on January 29, 2000. The Florida band has had five top 10 singles to date. From its self-titled debut album, "I Want You Back" reached No. 3 in April 1998 while "Tearin' Up My Heart" peaked at No. 4 in August of that year. That was followed by three singles from the "No Strings Attached" album: the aforementioned "Bye, Bye, Bye," No. 1 for five weeks in March 2000, "It's Gonna Be Me," No. 1 for seven weeks beginning in June 2000 and "This I Promise You," which peaked at No. 4 last November. And one last note about "Pop:" by entering at No. 21, not only does "Pop" become the highest-debuting single of the year, it becomes the highest debut since "Shape Of My Heart." That single by *NSYNC's labelmates, the Backstreet Boys, entered at No. 3 last October.

Savage Garden, Goo Goo Dolls frontman John Rzeznik, Lenny Kravitz, Diane Warren, Max Martin, Andreas Carlsson, Desmond Child, Brian McKnight, Vertical Horizon's Matt Scannell, TLC's T-Boz, Filter, and Timbaland were among those honored at the 18th annual American Society Of Composers, Authors, And Publishers (ASCAP) Pop Music Awards on Tuesday (May 22) in Los Angeles. More than 600 songwriters, recording artists, and music-industry executives gathered to salute the songwriters and publishers of ASCAP's most performed songs of the year 2000 at the black-tie gala, hosted by Academy Award-winning songwriter, ASCAP president and chairman Marilyn Bergman.
Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync songwriters Max Martin and Andreas Carlsson shared songwriter of the year honors. Both songwriters are members of the Swedish performing rights society (STIM), which licenses music through ASCAP in the U.S. Carlsson confessed to LAUNCH that he was "shocked" to receive such a prestigious award. "I was kind of surprised. I knew that we had some success in the states, but when they called and said I was songwriter of the year, I was shocked." Carlsson's four award-winning songs that he wrote or co-wrote include: "Bye Bye Bye" ('N Sync), "It's Gonna Be Me" ('N Sync), "I Want It That Way" (Backstreet Boys), and "That’s The Way It Is" (Celine Dion). Martin's four award-winning songs that he wrote or co-wrote include: "I Want It That Way," "That's The Way It Is," "It's Gonna Be Me," "Show Me The Meaning Of Being Lonely" (Backstreet Boys), and "That's The Way It Is." EMI Music received publisher of the year honors for its 15 winning songs, including: "All The Small Things," "Back Here," "Be With You," "Black Balloon," "Genie In A Bottle," "I Try," "If You Had My Love," "Maria Maria," "Meet Virginia," "Say My Name," "Slide," "Steal My Sunshine," "Take A Picture," "Torn," and "Unpretty." Modest Mouse took home the ASCAP college-radio award, which is presented to the artist whose collective body of work over the year garnered the most performances on college radio. Modest Mouse's latest album, Sad Sappy Sucker, was released in April.
The ASCAP Pop Awards were presented to the songwriters and publishers of the most performed songs in the ASCAP repertory during the 2000 ASCAP survey year, which extends from October 1, 1999, through September 30, 2000.
5/24/01-'N Sync's PopOdyssey 2001 Tour Kicks Off Today. 'N Sync kicks off its PopOdyssey 2001 tour tonight (May 23) at 7:30 p.m. ET at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. British trio BBMak and 18-year-old Cuban-American pop singer Christina Milian are the night's opening acts. BBMak members Christian Burns and Ste McNally told LAUNCH that they looking forward to playing their first U.S. shows since their sold-out headlining club tour late last year in support of their album, Sooner Or Later. "It's going to be a great chance for us to make a lot of new fans," Burns said. McNally added, "If we're doing like three or four gigs a week, you know, it's like 50-60,000 people hearing our songs. Even if 10 percent of them went and bought the album, we'd be really happy." However, BBMak's Mark Barry and Burns explained that they would prefer not to be labeled as a "boy band." Barry explained, "You know, at the end of the day, we're three young lads and the fact that we play, we write our own material, and whenever we do sing, it's live on stage." Burns added, "And we don't dance. I think the only comparison that we have with a lot of boy bands is that we're young and we wear gel in our hair. That's it--that's as far as it goes, I think."
'N Sync 's PopOdyssey Tour is considered by many in the music industry to be the biggest live concert production ever, requiring more than 80 trucks to transport the group's multilevel steel staging from venue to venue. At each concert, one-time use cameras bearing the likeness of the 'N Sync members will be available for fans to purchase. During each show, the group will ask the audience to photograph them as they perform the title track from their upcoming album Celebrity (due July 24). The thousands of cameras flashing in unison will create a paparazzi effect as 'N Sync struts down a red carpet set-up on the stage. In addition, 20 lucky fans at each performance will be given the opportunity to join 'N Sync on stage and photograph them up close. One dollar from every one-time-use camera sold will be donated to 'N Sync's Challenge For The Children Foundation. 'N Sync hopes to raise $1 million for their foundation, which provides financial support to children's programs and other charities around the country.
'N Sync has also promised fans a preview of several of the tracks from Celebrity, including the first single from the album, "Pop," which has already taken radio by storm. BBMak's Burns said they will share more than just hair gel in common with 'N Sync tonight. "I mean 'Pop' stands for popular, so hopefully the music will be popular," he said.
'N Sync is scheduled to perform "Pop" on The Rosie O'Donnell Show on June 5 and on NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno on May 29th.
5/24/01-'N Sync: Say 'Bye Bye Bye' to Drugs. 'N Sync wants kids to say "Bye Bye Bye'' to drugs. The boy band has teamed up with the Office of National Drug Council Policy to create a new public service announcement with an anti-drug message. The spot will be shown before each concert on the group's summer tour.
"There probably isn't any pop group today more relevant to our early teen audience than 'N Sync,'' ONDCP acting director Edward H. Jurith said in a statement. "We think having them as part of our youth anti-drug campaign team is really going to raise the volume on our message to kids. I congratulate them on their commitment to this effort.''
5/24/01-Lil' Romeo to Kick Off *N Sync's Tour Opener. Lil' Romeo, whose hit single "My Baby'' was the number one selling single in the country last week, will join BBMak and 3LW on the sold-out date at Jacksonville's All-Tel Stadium (50,000 capacity). "It feels good to be performing on 'NSync's opening night of their tour. Me and my brother and sisters are fans of theirs,'' said Lil Romeo, "I think it will be a lot of fun."

Rusty is a geeky guy in college who has his own show where he interviews celebs. In the skit, Rusty gave Chris a Zima(a beer) to drink with him. When Chris thought Rusty wasn't looking, threw a little of the drink behind him and said "Oh yeah that's good." Then Rusty said, "now your just f-ing with me." Chris then got upset and said "Your cussing to much, I'm outta here" and he walked out. It was very funny, so stay tuned to your local FOX staion because they show the episodes in re-runs, so I'm sure we'll see this one again soon."
5/21/01-SNL Fell For Joey. On Saturday Night Live last night, Chris Kattan was on Weekend Update sketch. He was doing a renactment of when Joey fell down on the trap door during rehearsals in New Orleans and that's when he had to get 4 staples in his leg. He had on a light brown wig and looked unshaven like Joey. He walked out in front of Tina Fey's and Jimmy Fallon's desk. Kattan began doing his own version of the dance for "Bye Bye Bye". Suddenly, he shouted out, "Ow! My foot! A trap door!" He dropped to the floor, then screamed, "I'm Joey Fatone!"

5/21/01-ONDCP, *NSYNC Join Forces In National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign. The Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) and the multi-platinum band *NSYNC have joined forces to help prevent drug use among America's youth. During the band's upcoming 2001 POPODYSSEY Tour, *NSYNC will unveil a new National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign public service announcement (PSA) that features band members talking about their Anti-Drugs, the people and things that stand between them and drugs. The PSA will be shown at each of *NSYNC's upcoming concerts in 45 U.S. cities beginning May 23rd. *NSYNC will also feature the Media Campaign PSA on the band's Web site (http://www.nysnc.com ). The Web site is the number one artist site on the Web with an average of 42 million hits per month.
"There probably isn't any pop group today more relevant to our early teen audience than *NSYNC," said Acting ONDCP Director Edward H. Jurith. "We think having them as part of our youth anti-drug campaign team is really going to raise the volume on our message to kids. I congratulate them on their commitment to this effort."
The National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign is the largest and most comprehensive public health media campaign ever undertaken by the Federal Government. ONDCP conducts the campaign with key support from the Partnership for a Drug Free America. Congress authorized a five-year multi-media campaign designed to educate and enable America's youth to reject illegal drugs. The Campaign targets youth ages 11-18, but focuses especially on the vulnerable "tween" audience, ages 11-14. The "My Anti-Drug" message is part of a nationwide advertising and community outreach initiative within the campaign that has reached millions of target-age children since it was launched late last year. The "My Anti-Drug" campaign asks youth to think about and share their Anti-Drugs. Tens of thousands of kids have responded online and through the mail with answers that ranged from a single word to creative expressions, including art, music, photography and poetry. Several young people who participated are currently featured in new national broadcast and print ads that illustrate their personal Anti-Drugs.
*NSYNC, which includes Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Justin Timberlake, has obtained global stardom. Their self- titled 1998 debut album sold over ten million copies and yielded four number one singles. *NSYNC single, "Bye, Bye, Bye," has become the biggest hit song (most added into radio rotation) of all time. For more information on the ONDCP National Youth Anti-Drug Media Campaign visit mediacampaign.org , freevibe.com , or theantidrug.com.
5/20/01-File this under Win Win. BT gets to add 'NSync to his growing list of production credits, and 'NSync get to look and sound cool for a change. The electronic artist (real name Brian Transeau) has recently produced a song from the pop group's forthcoming album -- Celebrity, due July 24. The track, "Pop," will be the first single from the album and was penned by 'NSync's own Justin Timberlake along with the group's choreographer, Wade Robson (who's produced songs for Aaron Carter as well). BT's also in the midst of composing the score for Ben Stiller's next movie, Zoolander, and his score in The Fast and the Furious hits theaters June 22.
5/20/01-Joey Fatone Stung by Trapdoor. Don't tell 'N Sync's Joey Fatone to "break a leg" on the eve of his band's upcoming PopOdyssey tour. The singer almost took that advice literally when a trapdoor malfunctioned onstage during a rehearsal, according to the New York Daily News. Fatone had to be taken to a hospital in New Orleans, where the band was rehearsing, but a doctor stitched him up, and he promptly caught up with his bandmates in Los Angeles to film a video for first single "Pop." Jive Records says the singer is fine, and the May 23 start date for the tour will not be affected. Yesterday the band canceled one of its three Boston shows because a radio show held days earlier will not give the crew sufficient setup time, according to the 'N Sync camp.
5/17/01-*NSYNC Unveils Plans for Third Annual Challenge for the Children Event. After raising over $700,000 last year for their foundation, Challenge For The Children, the men of *NSYNC are at it again as they prepare for their third annual Challenge For The Children charity event. This year the event has grown into a three-day weekend, taking place in Las Vegas, NV on July 27th, 28th and 29th. Kicking off the weekend, celebrity guests will attend *NSYNC's show at Sam Boyd Stadium, then it's on to the Kick-Off Party at a private location. Saturday, fans will get a chance to see *NSYNC and their celebrity friends duke it out at the Celebrity Skills Challenge. During the Skills Challenge, celebrities on the Daze and Knights teams will compete in games such as Sumo wrestling, Shaq Shoe Race, an obstacle course and many more. The grand finale on Sunday will be the basketball game. Both events will be held at UNLV's Thomas & Mac Center. To wrap up the weekend, there will be a Championship Celebration at an exclusive nightclub. Last year CFTC brought out celebrities like PINK, Beverly Mitchell, Stephon Marbury, Ananda Lewis, Dean Winters, Isiah Thomas and Jordan Knight. This year some of the people on their wish list include Destiny's Child, Britney Spears, Ben Stiller, Lil' Bow Wow, Usher, Cuttino Mobley, Dream, Ludacris, Ahmad Rashad and Pat O'Brien just to name a few. This year's confirmed participants will be announced at a later date. Tickets for Saturday's Skills Challenge and Sunday's basketball game will go on sale during the second week in June. Challenge For The Children is an established 501c3 and was founded by the members of *NSYNC in 1999. The main goal of CFTC is to offer financial support to children's programs and charities throughout the country.
Every year *NSYNC chooses various charities to benefit from the event. Some of the charities that have benefited from the foundation are the Arnold Palmer's Hospital for Children & Women, Lifebeat, Childplace, The Justin Timberlake Foundation, Child Watch and Camp Good Days.
"What a better way to celebrate children than by playing a game. It is our privilege to bring a good time and a smile to all for a good cause. Isn't that what charity is all about? Feeling good and helping others feel good. Our foundation is doing just that with your help." - JC

5/17/01-An *NSYNC Marathon on 107.5. Everyone knows how *NSYNC's new single "Pop" was supposed to debut on radio May 15th. Well everyone called the local radio station and asked them to play it. The DJ said he would, when he got 1075 votes. Mind you, he did the same thing when "Bye Bye Bye" first came to radio. Well he never did play it that night, so he said he would play it today, and he did. But he played it the first time at 7:15, it's now 8:15 and he's still playing it! He keeps paying it over and over. He did the same thing to "Bye Bye Bye" and people who might have liked "Pop" now probably hate it because now they've heard it too much! They have a countdown of the most requested songs @ 8 o'clock called the top 8 @ 8 and instead of playing the most requested song, he keeps playing "Pop" and says it's #8, #7, #6, etc... If you want to email this DJ and tell them how much stupid it is to do that the address is Scholarbrad@1075kzl.com And might I add that he didn't do this with the Backstreet Boys, or anyone else. Just for *NSYNC.
5/17/01-POP Songs You'll Love To Hate. The first time is always the best. The second time kinda bugs. And then there are those songs that, by the Fourth of July, will have you reaching for the radio dial quicker than you can say, "Who let the dogs out?" That's right, they're back! In no particular order, here are five summer singles that'll leave you begging for less.
1) "The Rock Show" - Blink 182 - It's hard to make the snot-launching members of Green Day look sophisticated, but these Blink-182 rascals are a determined bunch. After milking the TRL nation dry with their junior high comedy, they're now pretending to get back to their punk roots with this slightly menacing single. (By the way, the new album is called Take Off Your Pants and Jacket. Get it? Hope not.)
2) "Bootylicious" - Destiny's Child - Considering that the women of Destiny's Child have, for a while now, been admonishing other R&B ladies to clean up their acts, choosing a single that sounds like a sex romp set to the Knight Rider theme sure seems like a curious career move. Talk about mixed signals.
3) "Pop" - *NSYNC - Wait a co-opting minute here. First it's Gap commercials, then cars, food, jewelry...and now this? Electronic music producer BT has been hijacked to work with the 'N Syncers for this throbbing, double-time R&B single. And that just means the headaches will be twice as bad.
4) "Can I Live" - Sisqo - Everybody knows "Thong Song" was a fluke on par with other big-a** anthems like "Baby Got Back" and "Rump Shaker." But even without that silver-hair helmet, Sisqó's got enough freakish appeal to shake down another hit with this slow-groovin' number. Yo, Sisqó, MC Hammer called--when you're done with 'em, he wants his pants back.
5) "When It's Over" - Sugar Ray - So, it looks like poor Mark McGrath got his widdle heart bwoken. Pardon us if we find an acoustic breakup song from the model-singer's Sugar Ray just a little hard to swallow. Isn't this the guy who was bragging about getting down with both Madonna and Carmen Electra while maintaining a steady girlfriend back home? It hurts to even think about it.
5/17/01-Joey Gets 4 Staples in Leg - Tour Still Goes On! On TRL May 17th when the daily news came on, John Norris explained that after the rehearsal for "Pop," Joey had cut his leg and had to get 4 staples! John also said it should heal quickly and it won't alter the tour dates at all.
5/17/01-Popbitch.com reports Lance Bass insisting that *NSYNC is not a pop band saying, "I think it's rhythmic harmony dance... RHD. That's it."
5/17/01-Chris Takes FuMan To Bloomie's in NYC. Chris is taking his crew to New York City for the first American stop in the FuMan Skeeto Summer Store Invasion Tour. On May 24th, he'll be at Bloomingdale's in the heart of Manhattan from 7:30-9pm. People need to get there and line up early to get the chance to see him. Visit FuManSkeeto.com.
5/16/01-'NSYNC Cancel First Boston Area Show. Boston area 'NSYNC fans will have one less chance to see their idols in concert, as the group canceled the first of its three shows at Foxboro Stadium. Radio station WBCN-FM is sponsoring its River Rave, a festival featuring Marilyn Manson, Black Crowes and Fatboy Slim, at the stadium on May 26, which won't leave the 'NSYNC crew enough time to set up the group's massive stage show in time for the originally scheduled May 30 performance, according to a spokesperson for local promoter the Don Law Company. Fans who've already purchased tickets to that show can exchange them for tickets to 'NSYNC's May 31 or June 1 shows at Foxboro Stadium. Exchanges are available on a first-come, first-serve basis until 5 p.m. ET May 28. The May 31 and June 1 shows had sold out, but the promoter said that stage modifications have freed up additional seats. 'NSYNC's PopOdyssey tour will kick off May 23 at Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
5/16/01-'N Sync Go POP. On May 28th MTV will premiere the new video "Pop" which was co-written and co-produced by Justin Timberlake and Wade Robson. JC Chasez also has songwriting and producing credits on several Celebrity tracks. And, true to its title, the album is loaded with big-name producers, from Rodney Jerkins (Michael Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Backstreet Boys) to the Neptunes (Mystikal, No Doubt, Ol' Dirty Bastard). R&B crooner Brian McKnight makes a guest appearance on the record. 'N Sync's summer tour kicks off on May 23rd in Jacksonville, Florida, and winds down August 24th in Jackson, Mississippi.

5/12/01-*NSYNC Make Small Appearance on Oprah. Yesterday on Oprah they were doing a show on cool jobs and Wade Robson was on! The first clip of Wade was of him with 'Nsync in a dance studio. They all said "Hi oprah," and after Wade introduced himself, Joey was like "by the way we're Nsync." They showed him rehersing with NSYNC on some new dance moves for their up-coming tour, stomping, clapping and stuff like that. 'Nsync said nice things about Wade. On some cable systems Oprah's shows re-airs a week later at night so hopefullly if anyone missed it u still can catch it!
5/12/01-*NSYNC Rock The Stage With Exclusive Performance of "Pop." They had the exclusive performance of "Pop" on TRL today. Not only did the guys look great, their dancing was just off the wall, and their song is fantastic. They really have changed their music type but it sounds great. MTV asked 'N sync questions off-air the day before, and fans had to answer the question correctly to gain time on the NSYNC-O-Meter. We were only allowed to see 2 minutes and 20 seconds of the performance. One question that Justin asked was, "what do you look for first in a girl?" The choices were eyes, mouth, or legs. Justin said, "what I look for first in a girl is Britney," and then he answer mouth.
5/12/01-*NSYNC Graces Cover of May 10th ET. *NSync graces the cover of Entertainment Weekly magazine for May 10th. There are two covers, and Dave Matthews Band occupies the other. This is the Summer Music Preview issue and it discusses "Celebrity" along with other new CDs that will hit the shelves soon. Get the magazine before it's sold out! Since there are more than one cover, it may be a little difficult to find the NSync cover.
5/12/01-This was posted by Melinda at nsync.com. For more check it out.
Hi everyone...Well it is the last day of rehearsal of *NSYNC 2001 POPODYSSEY Tour here in New Orleans. It has been a hard week. The guys have been putting in 12-15 hour days putting the new show together. It is full of surprises, you guys are going to love it. Everytime I leave my office to go watch I am amazed. It is so cool to see things they talked about in meetings months ago come to life. The tour will have three steel crews! What is a steel crew you ask? They are the ones that go ahead of us and build the stage structure. Then the everyday stage crew comes into town and puts in the other elements. After the show, as usual it all gets broken down and moves to the next city. The single goes to radio on May 15th PLEASE be sure and call your radio stations and request POP.

5/9/01-'NSYNC Push Back Tour, Album Release. 'NSYNC hit their legion of fans with a double whammy Wednesday morning. Their record company, Jive, announced that not only has the group delayed the release of its new album, Celebrity, from June 26 to July 24, but the start of the boys' PopOdyssey tour has been pushed back again as well. The band isn't quite done recording the album, a Jive spokesperson said. The album will display the group's writing and production skill on some of the tracks, and it'll also feature contributions from Rodney Jerkins, Brian McKnight, the Neptunes and Wade Robinson. This is the second time 'NSYNC have had to postpone tour dates. Last month the quintet cited added production preparations as the reason why they changed PopOdyssey's opening night from May 12 at Miami's Pro Player Stadium to May 18 at Jacksonville's Alltel Stadium. The tour is still slated to kick off in the Jacksonville venue, this time on May 23. 'NSYNC plan to make the wait for their outings worth it, promising to give audiences a preview of some of Celebrity's songs. The album's first single, "Pop," will hit the airwaves soon, with a video to air on May 28.
5/9/01-N Sync's 'Pop' Descends On Radio Next Week. "Pop," the first single from boy band 'N Sync's forthcoming Jive album, "Celebrity," will be available on Tuesday (May 15) to U.S. radio stations via satellite. Co-written by the group's Justin Timberlake with Wade Robson, the track was produced by the duo with BT. MTV will preview the video for the track May 10 during "Total Request Live," and then on May 28, debut the clip on the network's behind-the-scenes show "Making the Video." MTV also has an 'N Sync weekend planned for July 21-22. Due out July 24, "Celebrity" is the follow-up to the band's 2000 album "No Strings Attached." That set has been certified by the Recording Industry Association of America for U.S. shipments of 10 million copies, earning the group a diamond award from the organization. As previously reported, 'N Sync will kick off a stadium tour in advance of the new album's release. The run is due to start May 23 at the Alltel Stadium in Jacksonville, Fla., and wrap Aug. 24 at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium in Jackson. Throughout the tour, the group -- Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick, and Timberlake -- will perform "Pop" on several television shows. First up is a June 5 visit to the syndicated "Rosie O'Donnell Show," then a July 23 stop at NBC's "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno," and an Aug. 20 appearance on NBC's "The Today Show."
5/8/01-*NSYNC Call the Big-Easy Home For Rehearsals. 'NSYNC is ‘n town. Can you smell the teen spirit out there? The fluttering of pretty hearts at Mt. Carmel High? The busy grrrrl stirrings at Esplanade Mall? Teenagers always know first, especially girls. And it's true what they're saying: ‘NSYNC is here. They're here for two weeks, walking in our streets, eating in our restaurants, BREATHING OUR AIR. For TWO WEEKS.
Oh. My. God.
The chart-busting boys in the band are roaming our streets on a long leash, hitting the clubs and hot spots, drinking in our early summer steam. Seems that the young princes of pin-up pop, the bubblegum balladeers, are about to embark on a huge summer tour and New Orleans is where they've chosen to rehearse for it. More importantly (for purposes of the tour) New Orleans is where the enormous production crews are practicing setting up and taking down the three separate stages, sound and light systems that it takes to launch the band at each stop along the tour. (The concert set-up is so big and high-tech that they will need to start setting it up two cities down the road for the band to be able to play night after night.) Most of this is going on inside the Superdome, but if you look down from the Pontchartrain Expressway, you can see the outdoor stadium stage right there in the parking lot. (The tour is playing both arena and stadium locales; look for them here at the Dome, most likely in late summer.)
Of course, all this is off the record. Anyone who actually knows anything isn't talking. No one's going to tell you what French Quarter hotel the heartthrobs are staying in. Or what Bourbon Street club they go to night after night. (All right, maybe I will, but later on.) No one, for that matter, will confirm that they're here at all.
You may ask: Why New Orleans?
Maybe a couple of reasons. Maybe it's so that Justin Timberlake can be near where his girlfriend Britney Spears calls home, though she's hardly ever here. But last time they were in town, they carried on at the Red Room like they were teenagers. My God. Can you believe these people ARE teenagers? Is it just me who thinks it's weird that everyone pays so much attention to them? Or is it just me that pays so much attention to them? Anyway, maybe they're in town because ‘NSYNC manager Johnny Wright, who also manages Spears and used to manage the Backstreet Boys, is engaged to our own Erika Schwarz, the Folsom beauty queen who went on to become 1996 Miss America runner-up and later became a famous handgun permit advocate because she got carjacked Uptown and wanted to carry her own pistola thereafter. She recently left her job with a local law firm to join Wright's entertainment company as legal counsel. They're getting hitched in New York City later this month. (Schwarz is hosting a big party later this week to introduce her New Orleans friends to the band so everyone won't start swooning at the reception.) Or maybe they're here because Club 735 on Bourbon Street is Lance Bass's favorite club in the world. Of course, that's off the record. But he digs the place. He chose it, of all places, to spend his 22nd birthday Friday night, in fact. (Club 735 is a big hit with the ‘NSYNC demographic; the cast and crew from MTV's "Real World" both worked and played there all last spring. There's lots of private rooms to keep prying eyes -- and cameras -- at bay.) Or maybe they just like it here. ‘NSYNC has played three successful concert dates here in the last three years and other major SFX Promotions touring acts, Spears, the BS Boys, etc., have done equally well.
The Dome treats them right. The city fattens them up and makes them smile. The press, for the most part, leaves them alone. (!) And those girls at Esplanade Mall, well, they just keep buying whatever it is those boys are selling.

5/6/01-No 'Grease' For 'N Sync; Bass and Fatone Pursue Movies on Own. Sometimes even the world's biggest boy band can't get what it wants. The members of 'N Sync traveled to the Cannes Film Festival last May to announce, with maximum fanfare, that they planned to film a movie together. In October, the group's Lance Bass revealed that the movie in question would "most likely" be Grease 3. And in fact, the group had been working on a potential Grease sequel with the California production company Total Film Group, according to sources close to the project. But 'N Sync's substantial clout has so far not been enough to obtain the rights to the Grease name and characters, the sources said, and the movie has been shelved. Total Film Group is working to come up with another potential project to present to the 'N Syncers, and continues to try to rescue Grease.
But the time for a full-fledged 'N Sync movie, with all five members, may have passed, according to Lance Bass. Instead of a group movie, a la the Beatles' beloved A Hard Day's Night or the Spice Girls' ill-fated Spice World, Bass and fellow group member Joey Fatone have chosen to make their movie debuts without the rest of 'N Sync. Bass will star and Fatone will appear in On the Line (originally called On the L), a romantic comedy due in September or October.
"I think if you had all five guys of 'N Sync, people really wouldn't take the movie seriously," Bass told the VH1 Radio Network. "This way, there's a couple of us in it, and it's a real movie. It really stands up on its own."
The movie stars Bass as a fresh-from-college 20-something who works in an advertising agency. He meets the "woman of his dreams" on Chicago's "el" train, but she leaves without giving him her name and number. Bass' character spends the rest of the movie trying to track the woman down. Bass and Fatone may contribute new music to the soundtrack, but no plans have been confirmed, according to a publicist for the movie, which is the first film project from Bass' A Happy Place Productions.
"This is definitely a huge risk for me," Bass said. "The thing is, my first job is music. If this doesn't work for me, it's not going to break me. Coming out [with] my first movie, [in] the lead role … it's very insane. But you know, people are going to look at this and [know that] I'm doing this for my fans. The fans are going to love it."
Fatone also filmed a supporting role last September in an upcoming independent movie, The Bros., playing the victim of a crime spree. The movie, which is expected to include cameos from rappers Ludacris and Vanilla Ice, is scheduled to be completed by summer. The filmmakers are searching for a distributor, according to writer/director Jonathan Figg. "Joey was excellent. He was a real pro. It's a real coup for us [and] he was very excited about doing something a little grittier and edgier," Figg said from his Orlando production office. "There's a possibility that Joey might contribute to the soundtrack either by doing a track himself or providing us with an artist he's bringing up."
The movie, which was called The Brothers until Sony Pictures put another movie by that title on its release schedule, is a dark comedy about a pair of suburban kids who are obsessed with hip-hop.
Also last year, Fatone filmed a small role in another independent film, the comedy My Big Fat Greek Wedding, which is slated for release sometime this year.
Despite unending rumors to the contrary, no other 'N Sync-related movie projects appear to be anywhere near hitting theaters.
5/6/01-Destiny's Child, 'N Sync, 98 Degrees, Macy Gray Tapped For Candies Foundation Concert. Destiny's Child, 'N Sync, 98 Degrees, and Macy Gray and several more soon-to-be announced acts will perform live in concert to benefit the Candies Foundation on June 5 at New York's Roseland Ballroom. The goal of the concert, which will be hosted by actress and Candies spokesperson Jenny McCarthy, is to raise $500,000 for the new charitable organization. The public-awareness initiative will include print ads featuring photos of Destiny's Child, 'N Sync , 98 Degrees, Macy Gray, and McCarthy in entertainment and lifestyle magazines. The ads will contain a positive message targeted at teens followed by compelling statistics about teen pregnancy. The ultimate goal of the organization is to reduce the high rate of teen pregnancy in the United States. Tickets for the June 5 concert event are priced at three levels: $300 for the full concert, $500 for the pre-party and the concert, and $1,000 for the pre-party, concert, and post-concert party at Studio 54. Additional information regarding concert-ticket packages will be made available shortly at the Candies Foundation's official website, candiesfoundation.org.
5/6/01-Check out Jiverecords.com for a 10-second clip of *NSYNC's new single!
5/2/01-The Los Angeles Times surveyed "22 of the most powerful executives in the record business" for comments on the future of top current musicians, including the *NSYNC. An executive said of the guys, "A lot of people want this teen phenomenon to go away, but I think *NSYNC will clearly continue. Justin Timberlake could well be another Michael Jackson."
5/1/01-Fatone is having a baby but keeping it simple. The success of ‘N Sync has made Orlando’s Joey Fatone one of the wealthiest young entertainers in the world. So you might think his daughter would also be raised with hand-woven silk wet-wipes and platinum Pampers. That notion disappears faster than most daddies at diaper-changing time when you see where expectant girlfriend Kelly Baldwin set up baby-gift registries: Babies ‘R’ Us and JCPenney. That’s why Fatone and his family are so popular in Central Florida. They’re the kind of down-to-earth folks who wouldn’t stick old pals from high school with a wish list from Nouveau Riche Rugrats of Snobberly Hills.
Baldwin, according to her drivers license, is a 5-foot-1, 23-year-old who wears corrective lenses, but has no other restrictions. Good to know when Baldwin starts steering the baby stroller around Fatone’s four-bedroom, four- bath $402,400 pool home in south Orlando. Little Brianna’s nursery and crib will feature a "sun, moon and stars" motif, according to Baldwin’s online gift registries, which are blank where the father’s name goes. Most items requested are pretty basic. So the next time you swab down your sink splashers, you can tell them you’re using the "pop-star preferred" $10 per three-pack Carter’s washcloths. Amid the list of scented drawer liners, spill-proof cups and baby-food organizers is one sure sign of the Fatone DNA, a deluxe eight-piece grooming set. But doubt that comes with daddy’s favorite flaming-red highlights. One of the few luxury items requested was a $199.99 handheld TV monitor, but it was out of stock, as was the $3.99 Comfy Bear Bath Cushion. The couple also requested, and received, a $64.99 Comfortemp Underarm Thermometer. But as any baby or new parent would tell you, considering the alternative, that little gadget is worth its weight in.
5/1/01-Lance Hires Smalltime Actors; Movie Due in 2002. Production for Lance and Joey's upcoming movie "On the L" is currently underway in Toronto, Canada. "On the L'' is about a couple who meet briefly on their city's train system and must then find a way to reunite. Smalltime actors, have been hired to play the main characters in the movie. Lance Bass plays the main character, "Kevin Gibbons", who falls in love with "Abbey" played by Emmanuelle Chriqui ("Snow Day"). Joey Fatone plays Lance's bestfriend, "Rod". Gregory Qaiyum ("The Bomb-itty of Errors") plays "Eric" while James Bulliard ("Relic Hunter") plays "Randy". When Lance meets his "soulmate" in the train system, he doesn't get her phone number, so him and Joey try to find her by putting posters up all over town. The movie will be released in early 2002."
5/1/01-NSYNC's First Celebrity Single A U.K. Garage Number. Dance producer BT worked with group on 'Pop.' 'NSYNC embrace the of-the-moment dance sound of England's two-step/U.K. garage movement on "Pop," the first single from their upcoming album, Celebrity, according to Entertainment Weekly. Dance producer BT, who has remixed songs for Madonna, Tori Amos, Sarah McLachlan and Seal, worked with 'NSYNC on the song, EW reported in its latest issue.
"We took it to where we think music is going," Justin Timberlake, who co-wrote the song, told the magazine. "It's more futuristic. It's like R&B twice as fast."
According to EW, Celebrity will also include the ballad "Gone" and the potential single "Game Over." Rodney Jerkins produced the title track, while R&B crooner Brian McKnight produced a track called "Selfish," the magazine reported. Celebrity is due June 26, but 'NSYNC have promised to preview the album on their PopOdyssey tour, which kicks off next month. Representatives of the group's label, Jive Records, did not respond to requests for comment on the album, and a management representative for BT declined to comment on the producer's participation.
5/1/01-MTV to shoot summer show featuring *NSYNC. MTV Summer Beach House crews plan a change of latitude this week, hitting town to set up for performances and game-show tapings in Key West. The summer show, which features a fun spot with on-location concerts and regular MTV shows, plans to film for several weeks. But the production schedule and televised dates are not available.
"We are going to be in Key West for the summer," said MTV spokeswoman Jennifer Deguzman. She said she could not confirm locations or times for production. However, MTV has asked city permission for a special event May 21-22. MTV production crews plan to close Duval Street from Caroline to Greene streets for "a televised (taped) event with a performance (track act) of *NSYNC," according to the application. Monday would be the set-up from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. and Tuesday would be rehearsal and shooting from 7 a.m.-5 p.m. City commissioners will review that request Tuesday. The event would include 75 crew members and an audience of 150-200. During the past couple of months, MTV representatives met with city and park officials to find a main stage location, which probably would remain set up throughout the weeks of production. No final location could be confirmed. And representatives met with several private entertainment locations for shoots. No details have been finalized, Deguzman said.
5/1/01-N The Works. They have a section in Entertainment Weekly called Hear & Now. It had a small article on *NSYNC's upcoming single and album. Here it is:
'N THE WORKS Remember when electronica was about to be the next big thing...then wasn't? It may still take over if teen girls have any say. "Pop," the probable first single from 'N Sync's July album, "Celebrity," finds producer BT adopting England's trendy "two step" sound. "We took it to where we think music is going," says cowriter Justin Timberlake. "It's more futuriic. It's like R&B twice as fast. It's like house - dance meets R&B..." "It's like the Artful Dodger making out with Aretha Franklin," kids Chris Kirkpatrick.
"Pop" could almost be mistaken for the next Michael Jackson single, if he goes electronica. And Jacko is paying attention to 'N Sync: He heard "Gone" (cowritten by Timberlake) and asked if they'd donate it to his long delayed disc instead of "Celebrity," but was turned down. "It's probably my favorite ballad I've ever heard," boasts Lance Bass. Other completed tunes include the Rodney Jerkins helmed title track; "Selfish," produced by Brian McKnight; and "Game Over," which may be the first single if the group thinks radio is too pooped to keep up with "Pop."
