3/26/01-The One With the Jowls Is So Dreamy! In Newsweek magazine this week there is an article criticizing boybands for their older members and they mention 'N Sync! Here's what the people over at Newsweek had to say. "Facial hair can hide only so much. With singers pushing 30 and fans pushing puberty, these guys have to admit they've gone from boys to men. There's no young heir in sight (the "Liquid Dreams" of overeager O-Town just don't cut it), leaving us with the great philosophical conundrum-how old IS too old for coordinated outfits?" Then the article goes on to list Chris, 29, as the "Elder Statesman" followed by a picture of Joey! Newsweek is well-established, national magazine, you think that they could get the names of an equally well-established boy band correct! The rest of the article goes on about how it's rumored that 'N Sync will break up and Justin will start a solo career, riding on Britney's "coattails".

3/25/01-Drew Lachey is commenting on comparisons to their rivals saying, "No, we're not a stadium group. I think music fans have unreal expectations of the music business now. Right now, we have basically three phenomena going on: Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, and Britney Spears. It's very rare you see this in your lifetime, let alone see three of them at the same time that can go out and sell the type of records that they do, and the type of tours that they can put together, and sell consistently back to back to back."

2/25/01-'N SYNC'S JOEY IS GOING TO BE A DAD. Talk about boys to men. 'N Sync singer Joey Fatone is going to be a father. Sources tell Hot Stuff that a slightly older girlfriend whom Fatone, 24, has been dating on and off for a number of years is due to give birth to his baby in the early summer. A rep for the singer declined to comment, but sources tell us that Fatone is thrilled about becoming a parent. Fatone and his family have every intention of being a part of the baby's life. "They're not talking marriage," one source says, "but this is serious for Joey. He isn't going to be walking away from this in any way." The couple, who have always maintained a low profile, are expected to make an announcement closer to the baby's due date.

In addition addition, singer Brandy, who had been slated to star as Dorothy, has dropped out of the project. Fox has had conversations with soul/pop songstress Mya (''Return of the Ex'') for the role. If a deal can be hammered out, Timberlake would play the Scarecrow. Thesp John Leguizamo is in talks to play a wicked warlock, while Little Richard has signaled his intent to play the Wizard.

The Salt Lake City native, whose Elektra debut, Fly, is set for a June 26 release, will join the 'NSync boys on July 2 in St. Louis and continue on through July 24 in Pasadena, Calif. Drawing comparisons to Stevie Wonder and (obviously!) Jamiroquai, Thomas will introduce his music to the world on debut single "Miss California," due to hit radio in April. 'NSync's Pop Odyssey tour will kick off, with opening act BBMak, on May 12 in Miami.

3/22/01-'N Sync Pays Homage to Jacksons. The members of 'N Sync are becoming experts on Jackson tributes. Earlier this month, the boy band paid homage to Janet Jackson at her "mtvICON'' tribute. Then on Monday evening, the group inducted Michael Jackson into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "I think next week is Tito,'' joked Chris Kirkpatrick. 'N Sync said they were approached by organizers from the rock hall and Jackson's representatives to give the induction. They said it was an honor to be a part of both tributes. "You're talking about a whole family who inspired us as a group, so it's an honor to honor them, any of them,'' Justin Timberlake said. The appearance spurred rumors of a possible 'N Sync-Jackson duet. On that subject, Timberlake said: "Keep saying it, maybe it will happen.'' One member of 'N Sync was absent from the rock hall ceremonies. Joey Fatone was stuck in Florida, members of the boy band said.

3/22/01-'NSYNC Set Hearts On 'Popstars' For Tour. TV-birthed Eden's Crush nabs opening slot on blockbuster group's summer outing. Having a weekly TV series does have its perks. The WB-birthed girl group Eden's Crush, whose debut, "Get Over Yourself" topped SoundScan's singles sales figures on Wednesday (March 21), have been tapped to open for 'NSYNC on their summer tour. Though the 'NSYNC excursion kicks off on May 12 in Miami, the five ladies will hook up with the five fellas as of their June 19 date in Toronto. Eden's Crush, formed during the course of the WB Television Network's reality series "Popstars," are finishing their as-yet-untitled first album and say they're trying to narrow down the 16 tracks they've recorded to an LP-lean 13. The group sold more than 77,000 copies of "Get Over Yourself" last week, rendering it the top-selling single in the U.S.

3/22/01-JC's Writing/Producing Skills. When it comes to bounce, singer-songwriter David Nicoll has definitely got momentum on his side. This multi-talented performer is reaching new career heights with his second hit song, entitled "You Don’t Have To Be Alone", a tune he co-wrote with JC of N’ Sync which is performed by the group on the soundtrack for the hit film "The Grinch", starring Jim Carrey.
The Orlando, Florida native previously collaborated with JC on N’ Sync’s multi-platinum "No Strings Attached" album as co-writers of the hip-hop dance tune, "Digital Getdown". The album has brought Nicoll and 'N Sync recognition from Billboard, which named it the Top Album of the Year, in addition to nominations this year for Grammy and American Music Awards.
"Writing music with JC is great because the two of us vibe together really well," said Nicoll of their collaborations, in which both artists work on the lyrics and the melody. "We know when something works, when it clicks for us musically, and it helps that the two of us have similar feelings and inspirations in just about everything relating to music."
The two are currently working on the mid-tempo love song called "Fork In The Road", which they also plan to produce for the next 'N Sync album. And in the coming year, two additional soulful grooves by Nicoll and JC, "You Knew" and "Lies", will be released on the second album from the chart-topping girl group, Wild Orchid.

3/21/01-*NSYNC inducted Michael Jackson at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame event Monday night prompting Gary from the Howard Stern show who was at the event to say was very gay. Gary added that Jackson looked very odd and he had something black on the end of his nose that didn't look right.

3/20/01-In an abstracts.net poll asking if *NSYNC's next full album be their last, only 15% said yes while 85% said no, with 2051 total votes cast.

3/20/01-'NSYNC Look To Neptunes For New LP. 'NSYNC have enlisted the galaxy's hottest producers, the Neptunes, for their follow-up to No Strings Attached, tentatively set for a June release. The quintet is in a New York studio this week with the Virginia-based production duo, which has worked with rappers Mystikal, Jay-Z and Ol' Dirty Bastard, R&B diva Kelis and pop-rockers No Doubt. 'NSYNCers Justin Timberlake and Chris Kirkpatrick recently said the album will dip into such genres as electronica, hard R&B, "straight-up dance music" and even country. The boys, who have already recorded material in Orlando, Florida, and Los Angeles, have said they hoped to produce the bulk of the effort themselves. While gearing up for 'NSYNC's first-ever full stadium tour, set to kick off May 12 in Miami, Lance Bass is filling his schedule with a role in "On the Line," which is shooting in Canada. And the group inducted Michael Jackson into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Monday night in New York. The Neptunes comprise Chad and Pharrell, who also have an eclectic group called N*E*R*D with their friend Shay. The trio will release its debut, In Search Of ..., this summer.

3/20/01-'N Sync Proud To Honor Michael & Janet Jackson. 'N Sync had the honor of inducting Michael Jackson into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame on Monday (March 19) at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City. Singer Justin Timberlake stepped up to the podium and gave a poetic turn to Jackson's introduction. "For more than 35 years, Michael Jackson has been the 'Man In The Mirror.' He thrilled us with the Thriller, the largest-selling album of all time, beat us at our own game with 'Beat It,' he rocked us to our souls with 'Rock With You.' He's 'Bad,' he's 'Dangerous,' and if he thinks we're gonna let him stop because we've had enough, as they so often say in this city, 'Fugheddaboutit!' There ain't no stoppin', there ain't no enough. He's the 'King Of Pop'--the one, the only Michael Jackson." Backstage, Chris Kirkpatrick said that 'N Sync was honored to toast Jackson after paying tribute to his sister Janet Jackson earlier this month when she was celebrated as the first-ever "MTV Icon": "It's such an honor for us to get to do Janet and then to be here with Michael. It's incredible." Timberlake added that 'N Sync would proudly show up for any event that pays tribute to the Jackson siblings: "You're talking about a whole family that inspired us as a group, so it's an honor to honor them--any of them." Since 'N Sync has spent so much time with the Jacksons, reporters asked 'N Sync if there was any truth to the rumor that Michael would duet with the group on its upcoming album, due in June. Timberlake said with a smile, "Who said that? Keep saying it...maybe it will happen." Reporters then asked Timberlake if 'N Sync would collaborate with Michael if he offered, and the singer responded, "You're asking us if we would do it? Are you kidding? Is that like a joke?" The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction ceremony airs on VH1 tonight (March 21) at 9 p.m. ET.

3/20/01-'N Sync To Forego Green Bay Stop. Fans of 'N Sync can blame nonfunctioning toilets as one of the reasons the popular boy band won't perform at Lambeau Field this summer. Promotion Management Inc. announced Monday that 'N Sync will not make Lambeau Field part of its "2001 Pop Odyssey" stadium tour, despite reports that had listed a Green Bay stop on June 26. New York-based SFX, promoters of the 'N Sync tour, said earlier that the Green Bay date had not been finalized. Bob Sullivan, PMI's vice president of venue operations, said construction at the stadium - part of a $295 million renovation to be completed by the 2003 NFL season - caused SFX to look at other options. Two of the biggest worries involved sanitation facilities, because the stadium's toilets are currently out of service, and keeping a potential crowd of 60,000 away from dangerous construction areas, Sullivan said. Camp Randall Stadium in Madison or the new Miller Park in Milwaukee were said to be under consideration for an 'N Sync date in late June.

3/20/01-’N Sync tickets sell out quickly. ’N Sync went in a blink. Tickets to the June 22 ’N Sync concert at Cleveland Browns Stadium sold out in a brisk 90 minutes Saturday, according to Dan Kemer, senior director of advertising and marketing at Belkin Productions, the show’s promoter. The 50,000 seats - the stadium’s capacity with an end-zone stage arrangement - went on sale at 10 a.m. and were gone by about 11:30.

3/19/01-Music-swapping company Napster said Tuesday that it has hired Gracenote, which maintains a massive database identifying recorded music, to help find and block songs from being traded online. The list of songs Napster is required to do its best to filter is rapidly growing. Late Friday, the industry sent a list of 135,000 titles to the company, which must be blocked by the end of Wednesday under the terms of the federal district court's injunction. Napster fans are trying to trick the system by changing the names of the songs for example Metallica's song "Enter Sandman" can also be found in Napster under "Enter The Sandman." Also the band 'N SYNC could be found in Napster under the following, 'NSync, *NSync, In Sync and about 50 other variations of that band's name.

3/19/01-*NSYNC Joins Planet Hollywood's Orbit For Charity. You may not be able to get into *NSYNC’S pants, but beginning Sunday, March 18, you’ll definitely be able to get into their shirts. Part of the profit from the T-shirt sales will go directly to Challenge for the Children, a charity founded by *NSYNC in 1999 to aid children’s sports, music and healthcare programs that lack adequate funding. Challenge for the Children’s main fundraising event is a weekend of sports and other activities. 3/19/01-Joey's Chyna Syndrome. From Us weekly Hot Stuff (March 19 edition):
Perhaps it's their love of good choreography that's brought them together, but the couple of the moment is definitely 'N Sync's Joey Fatone and the WWF women's champ, Chyna. When Hot Stuff first spotted the pair having dinner at New York's Plaza Hotel in December, we assumed it was just a fling, but Fatone, who's due to be a daddy when an old girlfriend gives birth this summer, looked very much attached to Chyna on the dance floor during a recent party at Las Palmas Lounge in Los Angeles, say sources.

3/19/01-New *NSYNC Marrionettets. New 'NSync dolls have been seen at different stores including Kohl's. These are much more realistic and wear clothes from the IGBM video. They are the large size and are in the same box the older ones came in."

3/19/01-Lance's Kissing Style. For all the Lance fans out there the March 10 episode of "Total Access 24/7" on Fox Family Channel featured the cast and a behind-the-scenes look at "7th Heaven." Part of the show focused on actress Beverley Mitchell, and here's a quote:
"Recently the most-asked question is, 'How does Lance Bass from *NSYNC kiss?' What all you guys want to know -- he's a good kisser! OK?" [laughs]

3/18/01-The New York Daily News reports *NSYNC's Chris Kirkpatrick predicting a dire future for 'boy bands.' "I see the vocal groups going away. They've been hot a little too long," he says. "I see real bands that really play instruments being the hot new thing. I'm not saying that *NSYNC is washed up. We actually do know how to play instruments." Chris says the new album out in June will include the guys using intruments.

3/17/01-Lance Bass Protégé Meredith Edwards In Sync With Country. Anyone hoping that the music industry's infatuation with youth was just a passing fad got a big wake-up call when 21-year-old Lance Bass announced he was opening a management company last year. A member of pop group 'NSYNC, Bass sent a message to all of the jaded industryites who refused to take young superstars seriously: they're here, they're hot, and they ain't going away.
That Bass' first client would be 16-year-old country singer Meredith Edwards (she turned 17 in early March) therefore seemed somehow appropriate. Bass obviously knows something about launching teen acts; as for entering the world of Nashville, said Edwards, "he has got so many friends in country music. He is definitely a great manager. He is the guy who has got the connections, he knows people." Indeed, no sooner had Edwards landed at Bass' Free Lance Entertainment than she was holding a contract with Mercury Nashville in her manicured hands. Her debut, Reach ( RealAudio excerpt of title song), releases May 15 on Bass' imprint label with Mercury, Freelance Entertainment, while the first single, "A Rose is a Rose" (grab the single), is at #44 this week on Billboard's Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart.
Which begs the question: How did Edwards land a gig other 16 year-old girls would give their eyeteeth for? In fact, Edwards reeled in her Bass the old-fashioned way: the two are childhood friends. Both hail from Clinton, Miss., a small suburb of Jackson. Their mothers are friends, and the two have known each other since both were members of the Mississippi Showstoppers touring group. "We have known each other since I was like eight," says Edwards. "We used to sing together, we lived in the same town. It's just a really weird connection. He always said, 'If I ever go anywhere in the music business, I want to take you with me.' " Still, once Bass reached the lofty heights of superstardom, even Edwards didn't expect him to make good on his word. "But he was like, 'Meredith, I want you to be my debut artist for the management company!'," she trilled. "I was like, Woah! I didn't really believe him! But we set it all up and it works great."
There are some obvious advantages to having a member of a multi-platinum selling pop group serve as your manager. When Bass squired a virtually unknown Edwards to last year's CMA Awards show, it made headlines in Nashville and beyond. She toured with 'NSYNC last fall, opening one of the hottest tours in industry history. The singer admits to being "really scared" on those first gigs — after all, 'NSYNC is one of the world's top touring acts, grossing $76.4 million last year, according to trade publication Pollstar. That's more than rockers Kiss or country's own reigning king and queen, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
"I didn't know what [the 'NSYNC fans] were going to act like, if they were going to be responsive or not," Edwards says. "I'm not 'N Sync, I don't sing pop music! But they were great, they accepted it totally. I was really lucky, definitely."
While cynics may wonder how hands-on a manager can be when he's cultivating his own red-hot artists' career, Edwards claims that Bass is, in fact, very involved in decisions affecting her career. Furthermore, she notes, Free Lance Entertainment is strictly a family-run operation, so there's a familiarity factor there.
Though she vows she's strictly country, the coming months will see Edwards open a few more shows for 'NSYNC, "because that's such an amazing opportunity. To perform in front of these kids that are these huge fans, it's such great exposure." Negotiations are also underway to put her on a big summer tour, though nothing has been signed at this point.
For an artist whose debut release is still two months away, things seem to be moving expeditiously for Edwards. It's another wake-up call from music's youthquake: they're here, and they're putting down roots.

3/17/01-Does this mean no Usher and Justin Timberlake 'If I Want To,' duet? R&B star Usher has blamed Napster for forcing him to scrap much of the material on his new album. Usher says he was scheduled to release his new album, All About U, last month but pushed back the release and began working on the tracks again after material was leaked to Napster in January. "All of the songs that were on Napster have now been dropped from the album," said Usher, recently speaking backstage at the MTV tribute to Janet Jackson. "We're cutting completely new tracks. I couldn't do that to the fans - release an album that they've already heard." Usher said the as yet untitled album is due out this summer. Pop Ya Colla, the first single from the album has already been a worldwide hit, reaching No 2 in the worldpop sponsored, UK singles charts. "I listened to a lot of '80s music while making the album," says Usher. "The album is kind of structured like a record from that time."

3/14/01-Chris Talks About the FuMan Name.On E! last night they had a short little blurb about being invited to NY's Planet Hollywood where Chris donated one of his designs for FuManSkeeto. He explained why his new company has such a unique name: "Once you remember it, you'll never forget it because it's the most, as I said before, the most obnixous name possible but it sticks." Then, a second later, Justin and Chris were in a snipet about the MTV Icon Janet and Chris said "When she came out with Rhythm Nation with the choreography and what they did with that, was just, you know, unbelieveable."

3/14/01-What, They Don't Come In Adult Size 10? Spotted at Kohls in the shoe department were the most kickbutt shoes ever! They were NSYNC shoes. They had 2 designs: one was white and said I love Nsync in what looked like a crayon type writing and the other one was purple and pink like dots. They both were really cute and the plastic on the bottom said Nsync all the way around the shoes. Although they only go up to a childs size 3 they were a really cute find for the youngest NSYNC fans!

3/13/01-*NSYNC May Hit Milwaukee On Tour Instead of Madison. This is a clip from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinal:
It looks like the 2001 'N Sync tour may be headed to Milwaukee after all. Early tour routing lists indicated that the multiplatinum boy band was headed to Green Bay's Lambeau Field for a June 26 concert. However, concert promoters said this week that the show likely will move to Milwaukee's Miller Park. A possible date for the show was not given. A spokesman for the Milwaukee office of concert promotion company SFX said Monday that a Miller Park date was "not locked down yet" and that more information would be available within the next week."

3/13/01-'N Sync And Planet Hollywood Team Up For Celebrity Edition T-Shirt. NSYNC has teamed up with Planet Hollywood to create a new 'N Sync-Planet Hollywood Celebrity Edition T-Shirt, and sales of the item will benefit the group's Challenge For The Children charity. 'N Sync are Planet Hollywood's most recent celebrity partners, and the group will personally unveil the shirt at the new Planet Hollywood Times Square in New York City on Sunday (March 18) at 4 p.m. ET. After the event, the shirt will be available exclusively at all U.S. Planet Hollywood locations. The members of 'N Sync said of the T-shirt venture in a statement: "Planet Hollywood asked how they could help with a new fundraising effort for our charity, Challenge For The Children, and the T-shirt seemed like a natural fit. We designed the shirt working with a theme that is very familiar to Planet Hollywood guests: handprints. We believe this design will attract all of our fans to get out and buy the shirt. With the help and support of our friends and fans, we will raise needed funds for programs that we all believe in." The shirt features the handprints and corresponding signatures of singers Chris Kirkpatrick, Lance Bass, Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, and Joey Fatone in bold neon colors. The shirt is black and made of 100 percent cotton, and it is available in a full-cut, short-sleeve tee for $22 and in a fitted women's version for $24. The shirt also incorporates both the Planet Hollywood and Challenge For The Children logos. A portion of the proceeds from sales of each shirt will go directly to Challenge For The Children. Challenge For The Children is a charity 'N Sync founded in 1999 to offer financial support to children's programs and charities throughout the country. The organization focuses on funding schools that have suffered cutbacks in sports and music programs, as well as children's health care and education programs. The group raises funds in support of their charity in a variety of ways throughout the year, including its Challenge For The Children weekend of sports challenges and other activities. This year's Challenge for the Children III will be held in Las Vegas over the last weekend in July.

Danielle will be making appearances in the coming months to launch the new spring line of men's and women's fashions, available in Nordrstom, Bloomingdale's, Von Maur and Eaton stores across North America this season.

"FuMan Skeeto is a young company built on a foundation of positive, goal oriented people who believe that with a little help, we can all see our dreams come true. I too share the same views and hope that we can work together to make a difference with not only the clothes but all future FuMan Skeeto endeavors." Says Danielle Fishel.
Danielle is known to fans around the globe as the free-spirited Topanga Lawrence on the long-running ABC sitcom "Boy Meets World." For the role, she was honored with a 1998 Hollywood Reporter Young Star Award as best actress in a television comedy series. Danielle has a leading role in the upcoming feature film "Longshot" with Paul Sorvino. "Our mission is to express through our products, be they clothing, graphic design or music releases, the positive and uplifting message of believing in one's dreams", says Kirkpatrick, who was inspired to create his own clothing line after wearing other peoples designs on stage. "I used to wear football jerseys all the time and after a while I thought, if I could just make this a little different, would be so cool", he explains.

3/12/01-Jackson revered as inaugural 'mtvICON'. Dozens of celebrities and hundreds of fans crowded a Sony Pictures Studios set in Culver City on Saturday night for the first "mtvICON" gala, celebrating the career and pop culture influence of Janet Jackson. She was a solid choice to receive the inaugural honor, having made more than 30 videos and won eight MTV Video Music Awards, including the Video Vanguard Award in 1990. Jackson also has racked up nine No. 1 singles and more than two dozen top 10 hits since breaking out with her "Control" album in 1986.
The tribute was set in a multi-level studio plastered with chain-link fencing that featured two stages and a huge video monitor. The talent lineup was heavy with younger acts who have been influenced by Jackson's music and videos. There were live and taped testimonials, performances and video packages that traced her private life and career -- from her early days on television's "Good Times," "Diff'rent Strokes" and "Fame" to her phenomenal recording career, including her new "All for You" album due next month.
Rap duo Outkast opened the show with a lyrically altered version of its recent No. 1 hit, "Ms. Jackson." The words were changed from "I'm sorry, Ms. Jackson" to "We love you, Ms. Jackson," and they subbed in other lines like "All those cron wanna be like you."
The honoree, seated between producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis in a star-studded row anchored by Shaquille O'Neal, flashed humble smiles during the song and throughout the evening.
Among the heavies offering testimonials were Jamie Foxx, who "confessed" that he was the guy supporting Jackson on that steamy Rolling Stone cover in 1993, and Stevie Wonder, who recalled knowing Jackson when "she could barely talk, let alone sing -- when she could barely walk, let alone dance." Losing his place a moment later, Wonder drew laughs by asking, "Where are the cue cards?" There was a touching appearance by Jackson's fourth-grade teacher, Cheryl Womack, who challenged the crowd to pick the star out of a grainy class photo. There was a chorus of "awwwwws" when the camera closed in on a 10-year-old Janet. Three hot young acts gave disparate performances of Jackson classics. The members of Destiny's Child giggled through some comments before singing "Let's Wait Awhile"; Macy Gray, backed by dancers sporting brightly colored fright wigs and moving like the women in that "Addicted to Love" video, belted out "Love Will Never Do (Without You)"; and Buckcherry, with singer Joshua Todd sporting a wild two-tone hairdo, hammered through a hard rock version of "Nasty." Aaliyah introduced a dance performance of Jackson hits featuring Pink on "Miss You Much," Usher on "Alright" and Mya on "The Pleasure Principle." All three then teamed on "Rhythm Nation," backed by a dozen dancers. Tyrese delivered a spoken tribute before serenading Jackson with a few a cappella bars of "You Are So Beautiful." Other celebs taking part included Method Man, Redman, Taye Diggs, David Alan Grier, Busta Rhymes. Ubiquitous popsters Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and 'N Sync got face time, too.
As the evening wound down, an unseen announcer introduced "the Jackson brothers." Marlon, Jackie, Jermaine and Tito Jackson emerged from behind a curtain, and Jermaine said, "You might notice that someone is missing tonight." He confided that Randy was under the weather. The brothers then took turns sharing memories of their littlest sister, including how they changed her diapers during shows. None of the four watched the big screen as brother Michael, wearing dark glasses and an all-red outfit, delivered brief taped comments. The onstage brothers then introduced Janet, who turns 35 in May, by saying, "She will always be our little sister." With that, the night's star descended from the rafters with a pair of dancers and took the stage to perform her new single, "All for You," which debuted at No. 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 last week. With a rhythm track reminiscent of Chic's "Good Times," the song is a good bet to become her 10th No. 1.
With everyone onstage dressed in all-white -- a stark contrast to Jackson's '80s videos -- the performance went smoothly until the end. The music seemed to end abruptly, and Jackson and the dancers appeared unsure of what to do next. An offstage voice was heard to say, "Let's try it again from the top." But they didn't -- and that was the show. So much for the planned medley of her classic hits.
MTV plans to honor one artist a year with an "mtvICON" tribute. Criteria include a performer's influence on the art of music video and/or inspiring a new generation of music artists. Despite the rough ending, this was an enjoyable lovefest that should make a strong 90-minute TV show. It airs at 8 p.m. Tuesday on MTV, with interactive elements available at MTV.com.

3/8/01-Must-Sync TV? NBC, in another of its infamous sweeps promotions for the Thursday-night lineup, is trying to close a deal with boy band 'N Sync to make guest appearances on episodes of Friends, Will & Grace and Just Shoot Me, which would all air on the same night. How likely is this? Well, popsters 98 Degrees did appear on an episode of Just Shoot Me earlier this season, and we know Will & Grace's Jack (Sean Hayes) is a Britney Spears fan. As for the benefits to the 'N Syncers, with a new album and summer stadium tour kicking off, a night of free publicity certainly wouldn't hurt. The band's reps, however, say this is the first they've heard of the guest shots.

3/8/01-Celebrating 1 Year of No Strings Attached. With March 21st fast approaching and since it'll be the 1 year anniversery of the release of the record-breaking album, "No Strings Attached," It is time that *NSYNC fans all around should celebrate and thank *NSYNC at the same time. You see, *NSYNC's very first video, "I Want You Back (the American version)" was never retired on MTV's Total Request Live (TRL). On the night of Tuesday, March 20th (from 4:00pm EST) and the morning and early afternoon of Wednesday, March 21st (until 2:30pm EST), go to mtv.com and vote for "I Want You Back" on TRL.

3/8/01-NSYNC Get Two International Dance Music Award Nominations. *NSYNC is nominated for the following International Dance Music Awards:
Best Dance Artist Group
Best Pop 12-Inch Dance Record
The rest of the nominations can be found at wintermusicconferenc.com.

3/8/01-Carson Daly Talks *NSYNC. "TRL has secret entrances and exits for artists to leave on the sly, I remember once 'N Sync sent out dummy limos with nobody in them and I saw 500 kids chasing an empty limo they thought 'N Sync was in. The guys are very humble though. I'll go to their hotel and 10,000 kids will be out front. But I walk in and there they are, eating pizza. It's weird. When we started TRL, Backstreet was clearly the biggest act-there was no 'N Sync or Eminem. I feel like an older brother who's got to see my little brothers grow up. BSB is more serious ans business-oriented than 'N Sync, but none of them have attitudes."

3/8/01-Joey Confirms News About Child on Radio. On the radio today, WXFM 97.4, they interviewed 'N Sync and when asked about having a child, Joey answered yes! YOU GO JOEY!!! Not just for having a baby, but for being proud enough to admit it!!! (If it's true, cause I personally didn't hear it.)

3/8/01-No meet and greets this tour. This is from the OFFICIAL fan club:
*NSYNC will have a new format for what used to be called a meet and greet. There will be no meet and greet on this tour but they've replaced it with something even more fun for fan club members. They will be called Sound Check Parties. Here is a rough outline of how the Sound Check Party will work. Remember, this is a rough outline and the guys reserve the right to change it at any time. *NSYNC will sound check two songs as the private audience watches. What fun to actually be in the stadium before anybody else and see and hear *NSYNC singing just for YOU! After completion of the sound check, the guys will do a question and answer session. A microphone will be available in the audience so guests can ask questions. The guys will have their microphones on stage so everybody will be able to hear both the question and the response. During the Q&A time, guests will be allowed to take photos of the guys. Once the Q&A session is over the guests will be given a pre-signed autographed picture of *NSYNC as they depart. In multi-show cities the Sound Check Party will be on the first night ONLY. All guests must have a show ticket to attend a sound check party. You may still use your existing fan club request form to apply for these Sound Check Parties. We will still be drawing the winners for each city by lottery and we will still notify the winners only. If you win the lottery draw this Sound Check Party if for yourself only, no family or friends will be allowed into the stadium with you. Please make personal plans about how to meet up with your family and friends after the Sound Check Party is over.

3/8/01-SFX Revokes *NSYNC Offer. Concert promoters the SFX Music Group are adding insult to injury for 'N Sync fans who are still upset with the platinum-selling boy band over last summer's show at the Route 66 Raceway in Joliet. Tickets were set to go on sale at noon on Sunday for a June 16 stop by 'N Sync's 2001 Pop Odyssey tour at Soldier Field in Chicago. When the Chicago office of SFX announced the show on Monday, a spokesperson said that it would provide "a unique ticket purchase opportunity" for fans who had missed all or part of last summer's show because of mass traffic jams. People who'd written or called the promoter to complain after the Joliet concert would be able to buy seats in a special section close to the stage at Soldier Field, SFX initially said. But on Friday, the promoters said that announcement had been premature and there'd be no such arrangement on Sunday.
"As you know, a class-action lawsuit was filed against SFX by some patrons of last year's event, and because of pending litigation, the offer you publicized is not available," said SFX's Chicago marketing director, Kate Darling. The company's national spokeswoman Susan Elmore added that SFX "really regrets the miscommunication."
Four days after the Route 66 concert last summer, Northbrook resident Pierre Petrich filed a lawsuit against SFX, 'N Sync and the Raceway alleging that she was "precluded from attending all or a substantial portion of the performance" because the number of tickets that were sold made the roads "virtually impassable." Petrich had planned to attend the concert with her 9-year-old daughter. William Sweetnam, the attorney for the class-action suit, charges that SFX and the band sold more tickets than the Route 66 Speedway could safely accommodate. Sweetnam said the suit has been progressing slowly because it took several months to track down the members of 'N Sync and serve them with the legal papers. (The band's corporate office had refused to accept them.)
"Our approach to this case is that all of this was in their control," Sweetnam said. "I don't say that they built the roads or that they're the police, but our theory here is that they oversold the place. I can say that I'm gonna have Lollapalooza and sell tickets for $75 and it's in my back yard, but I'm gonna have a lot of angry people and I can't just walk away from that and say, `Hey, it's not my fault.' " SFX declined to comment on the pending litigation, and an 'N Sync spokesman could not be reached. SFX and the band have both filed motions to dismiss the suit. A hearing is scheduled in Cook County Circuit Court on May 14.
'N Sync's last Chicago area performance was star-crossed from the beginning. The Saturday show had to be rescheduled after a wind storm destroyed thestage at the Route 66 Speedway while workers were erecting it. The makeup date was Aug. 1, but that was a Tuesday afternoon, and the combination of traffic from 60,000 concertgoers plus the usual rush-hour snarl resulted in a five-mile traffic backup. Some concertgoers also complained of poor facilities at the venue, bad sound and seats that had been sold twice due to ticketing snafus.
Crestwood mom Phyllis Simpson attended the show with her two daughters, 10 and 16. In addition to missing part of the show because of the traffic, she was confronted with poor sight lines and a malfunctioning video screen. As a result, her youngest daughter never saw her heroes perform. "Then, leaving took 3 1/2 hours to get out of the parking lot," Simpson said. "I tried to find out who was responsible back in August, but I only received phone numbers where no one answered or phone mail was never returned."
Simpson was encouraged by SFX's promise of special seating at Soldier Field and disappointed to find out that it had been revoked. "If it was up to me now, I'd say the hell with them," she said. But she still will buy tickets on Sunday because her daughters still want to see 'N Sync. 'N Sync is the best-selling band in the red-hot teen-pop market, with sales of 10 million copies for its sophomore album, "No Strings Attached." Despite the difficulties at its last area performance, tickets for the June 16 Soldier Field show were expected to sell briskly, even with a top price of $89.50 ($75.50 for tickets, plus a $4 facility fee and Ticketmaster service charges of $10 for phone and Internet orders).
"People are still gonna want to go to see them in concert and they still have their fans," said Todd Cavanah, program director for teen-pop powerhouse WBBM-FM (96.3). He said he was surprised when SFX announced the special ticket arrangement in the first place, since the logistics of such an offering can be problematic. "I'm not defending SFX, but for SFX to go on and say they were gonna do something and then not do it. . . . I never understood what they were doing from the beginning," Cavanah said.

3/8/01-Wynonna Gets A Visit From Britney & Justin. Wynonna Judd was in a Los Angeles recording studio last Friday (March 2) with her baby sister, Ashley Judd, listening to a few songs from Wynonna's upcoming project; when teen pop sensations Britney Spears and 'N Sync's Justin Timberlake stopped in to say hello. Wynonna said that Spears was amazing, kind, and respectful on their first-ever meeting, and wanted to know everything the country singer was doing. Spears even told Wynonna that she performed the Judds' "Love Can Build A Bridge" several years ago on TV's Star Search. Wynonna returned the compliment to the pop superstar by telling her that she and her children are big fans, and that she recently got up in front of a small crowd and sang Spears's "Baby One More Time" to a karaoke tape. Just a week earlier, in the same Los Angeles studio, Madonna and Mariah Carey were recording and checking out the schedule to see who was coming in to cut songs. Both stars noted to Wynonna's producer, Shep Crawford, that they loved Wynonna and her music.

3/8/01-BBMak Snags Additional 'NSync Tour Dates. BBMak will now saddle up for a whole slew of additional dates on 'NSync upcoming 2001 Pop Odyssey Tour. In addition to the eight previously announced dates, the English trio will now join 'NSync on 15 more dates, beginning in Boston on May 31 and carrying on through July 2 in St. Louis. Stops along the way include New York (June 3-4), Cincinnati (June 6), Buffalo, N.Y. (June 10), Philadelphia (June 12-13), Chicago (June 16-17), Toronto (June 19), Cleveland (June 22), Minneapolis (June 24), and Detroit (June 29). The 2001 Pop Odyssey Tour kicks off May 12 in Miami.

3/8/01-New *NSYNC Toys Are Out! You can now get UNO cards that have NSync pictures on them. It also comes with a remix CD of "It's Gonna Be Me". Its made by Mattel. But the cool part is that on the back cover, there is a picture of a Barbie doll Nsync fan. Now this is the actual Barbie here and she's dressed in an NSync t-shirt and hat.

3/8/01-Lance Spends A Day at the Gardens. Lance Bass enjoyed a day of roller coasters and raft rides at the Busch Gardens amusement park in Tampa recently. According to E! Online, the 'N Sync-er wore baggy khakis and a fishing hat, and was happy to chat with all the fans who approached him. Whatta guy!

3/8/01-Jackson Eager to Work With Justin. Michael Jackson is dying to do something with *NSYNC heartthrob Justin Timberlake. Jackson invited Timberlake up to Neverland to talk music. Justin brought his lady, Britney Spears, along for the thrill of it all. Michael, who was all business, reportedly said to an aide, "why'd he have to bring her?" (There was some excited talk about Michael having a hand in a solo CD effort from Justin."

3/8/01-*NSYNC Question on WWTBAM. On "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire," March 7, *NSYNC was on the fastest finger question. The question was... Put the following music groups in order of their 1st album release starting with the earliest. A) Jackson 5, B) Menudo, C)*NSYNC, D)Boyz 2 Men. The correct order was... C)*NSYNC D)Boyz 2 Men B)Menduo A)Jackson 5.

3/6/01-*NSYNC May Not Tour New Mexico. There was on a local news broadcast last night in Albuquerque, as well as in the Albuquerque Journal. *N SYNC CONCERT MAY BE CANCELLED DUE TO STADIUM SIZE. It was the announcement teen rockers in New Mexico had been waiting for: pop boy band *N Sync would perform a live concert in Las Cruces at Aggie Memorial Stadium. However, Eyewitness News 4 has learned the show is not a done deal yet as a major issue has been found in the size of the stadium and how much money the group can make. At least two web sites and several radio stations have announced the concert scheduled for July 31st. The state says such announcements are premature. The problem is *N Sync's stage is larger than most, 82 feet wide. That would limit the number of usable seats at Aggie Memorial Stadium to just 28,000 fans. With fewer seats to sell, less money can be made and the group is not sure the profit margin will be enough to make it worth the trip to southern New Mexico. State officials are working to try to find a way to either increase the number of seats available or increase the profit margin. If neither can happen, the group says the show will not go on.

3/6/01-*NSYNC on the Juno Awards. All Canadian NSYNC fans, did you see JOEY and LANCE on the 2001 JUNO's? (an ALL CANADIAN award show) Well they were on there! They helped Jann Arden interduce Nelly Furtado on the stage to performe. It all started out when Jann said, "A person gave me keys to this car right outside my dressing room door. The car was a (the name of the car, I dont remember) and the lisence plate said 'N..N..N..S..Y...N...C' And I know you girls out in the auddience like NSYNC." Then Lance and Joey came out and the crowed went WILD!

3/6/01-Junk Food Junkies Backstage. Earlier today, flipping channels, I came across a short segment about *NSYNC. It talked about how they eat like teenagers while they are on tour-with mainly all junk food! The list they showed included Red Cream soda, a bowl full of candy, 2 boxes of Pop-Tarts, cereal (a box of Oreo O's and a box of Crunch Berries), and of course ("Probably at their mom's request," as the host put it), a veggie platter. He then said something about wondering if the weight between the 5 of them will exceed 2000 pounds by the end of 2001.

3/5/01-'N Sync is even bigger. There are those who feel there is simply never enough 'N Sync. They are usually short, female, and scream a lot, and they're a sure thing for the new IMAX project, called " 'N Sync: Bigger Than Live." But the film is so visually stimulating, so contagiously energetic, it could win over any cynical non-believer in teen pop.
Action, movement, colors, costumes, fantastic cinematography, and amazing choreography -- that 'N Sync's vocals might be "enhanced" with backup DAT tapes seems irrelevant. It's enough to drink in the sheer exuberance and joyful physicality of the performance.
Aside from a brief intro that cuts from the quintet playing pool to close-ups of screaming fans, this is a straightforward concert film, drawn primarily from a performance at the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mich. (Not that the "where" matters, since 'N Sync concerts are orchestrated to the minute.) It fully conveys the experience of attending the concert but with a gratifyingly light touch. It makes sure to show the girls jumping up and down, the green and blue glow sticks waving in unison, the endless screams -- but that's not piled on. The focus stays on the band. Wisely left out are transitions between songs, such as the gaps that occur when the band changes costumes.
If anything, it is a concert experience magnified, affording angles and details not visible otherwise. The camera work of John Bailey, whose credits include "Ordinary People" and "The Big Chill," is stunning. He not only captures the tiny moments but also reveals personality and character.
You get to watch the tiny sweat stain that begins to form on the solar plexus area of JC Chavez's shirt and grows into an upside-down V covering his chest. You can almost read the tiny inscription on the medallion around his neck as he croons. You see the finely etched embroidery on Joey Fatone's Chinese-style silk shirt. You see Chris Kirkpatrick tug the edge of his jersey and fidget with his headphones. You see Justin Timberlake jitter his fingers, even during an a cappella rendition of "I Thought She Knew."
Poised to harmonize on the final "you" of "This I Promise You," the fivesome pauses a moment and stands, like gods -- and you begin to get some sense of why 'N Sync is where it is, and what this teen pop thing is all about. You can find more info about *NSYNC IMAX concert movie by going to: rbfcinc.com. 3/5/01-And a Napster update for you all...Napster To Filter Out Up To 1 Million Files. Napster as we know it may come to an end as early as this weekend. The company plans to voluntarily filter out as many as a million copyrighted song files from its popular file-sharing service using a new screening system that should be in place by Monday, the company's lawyer, David Boies, said Friday (March 2). "I think Napster will still be the best music system out there. It will not be the same," Boies said after a court hearing.
Napster and the Recording Industry Association of America were in court before U.S. District Court Judge Marilyn Patel, who is deciding how to rewrite an injunction that Napster has said could effectively shut its popular service down. The injunction could come at any time. "The reason for this hearing is to discuss not if, but what an injunction should look like," Patel said.
Napster's new screening system works by preventing offending file names — submitted by record companies, publishing companies and artists such as Metallica and Dr. Dre — from appearing in Napster's file index, which in turn prevents the files from appearing in search results, according to the company. "We have identified a large number — a small percentage, but a large number — of files that have been presented to us," Boies said in court. "We have had a group at Napster working literally night and day to find a process to block access to those files."
The filtering system will slow Napster's performance and require the company to add additional servers, which it will do as soon as possible, Boies said. What remains unclear is how many songs the million file names represent, since a single song is often represented by multiple file names on Napster, on which users are responsible for naming files.
A search on Friday for Napster for 'NSYNC's "Bye Bye Bye," for instance, turned up a seemingly endless list of file names, including: "NSYNC-Bye Bye Bye.mp3," "Nysync- Bye, Bye, Bye.mp3," "Bye Bye Bye by Nsync.mp3" and "Nsync- Bye Bye Bye (Good).mp3."
During a press conference, Boies did not respond to a question about how many song titles are represented in the million filenames.
Napster and the RIAA voiced disagreement during the hearing over how record companies should notify the service in the future about songs they want blocked from trading. The industry wants to identify songs by title and artist name, and argued that Napster should have the burden of figuring out the relevant file names. Napster said labels should instead identify songs by the names of the files under which they are trading.
"It's a shared burden," Boies told the court. "We have the burden of policing the system. [The labels] have the burden of identifying the songs and the files."
The five major record companies, along with the RIAA, sued Napster for copyright violation in December 1999. Patel issued a preliminary injunction in July, but the 9th U.S. Circuit Court stayed that order pending an appeal from Napster. On February 12, a three-judge panel supported most of the reasoning behind Patel's initial injunction, but ordered her to narrow its scope. Soon afterward, Napster offered to pay a $1 billion settlement over five years to labels in exchange for being allowed to continue operating as a subscription-based service. No label has yet accepted the offer.
Napster already has asked the entire 9th Circuit Court to review the three-judge ruling, and will likely ask the court to again stay the injunction. If that fails, Napster's last line of defense would be a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court requesting a stay, although it is unclear whether Napster would choose that path.

3/4/01-Joey isn't surprised that they didn't win any Grammys. *NSYNC's Joey Fatone: "I'm not surprised that the Grammy voters didn't pick us. I feel like they are the kind of people who think we haven't served our dues. Maybe when we're 50 or so. But it was a pleasure to be nominated. And it is always fun to perform at these things. We're doing a real slow one tonight so we won't get tired from all the dancing." Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst: "I already lost, but whatever. I don't think I'm old enough to win a Grammy yet. It's just fun to come and look at all the funny people."

3/4/01-Lance doesn't agree with Eminem's views. Quincy Jones dined with Atlantic Records mogul Ahmet Ertegun. Mary J. Blige performed with Wyclef Jean. Carlos Santana posed for pictures with everyone from divas to waiters. Maintaining a 26-year tradition, music mogul Clive Davis played host to Grammy week's starriest shindig Tuesday night at the Beverly Hills Hotel, a mixer of power and glamour that entails the rare confluence of artists and executives from competing labels. Conversation sporadically turned to Grammy season's favorite scandal: Eminem. The media scrutiny "is great for him," said Lance Bass of 'N Sync. "Everybody loves to hate somebody, and he fills that void. "Though 'N Sync has been a target of Eminem's bile, Bass shrugs it off as "pure entertainment." "He's not really like that personally," he says. "His daughter has posters of us on her wall. I definitely don't agree with his views. He takes it too far. To attack someone publicly is going overboard. I know it's strictly for entertainment, but you're hurting people.

3/4/01-My Big Fat Greek Wedding Coming Soon. It's official. "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," the latest film from Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman's Playtone Productions, will be coming to a theater near you. Lions Gate Films has acquired worldwide distribution rights to "Greek" and three other projects to be unveiled between Feb. 21-28 at the American Film Market in Santa Monica. Produced by Hanks, Goetzman and Hanks' wife, Rita Wilson, the film is directed by Joel Zwick. "Greek" is based on an autobiographical show by comedian Nia Vardalos. Wilson saw the show's original stage performance and was so taken that she produced the second run herself in 1998 in West Hollywood. She then involved Hanks, who decided to develop the story for the big screen. Starring John Corbett ("Sex and the City"), Gia Carides ("Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me") and Joey Fatone (of the boy-band 'N Sync), the film chronicles the struggles of a young Greek-American woman when she falls in love with an American.

3/4/01-*NSYNC Use Special Effects For Grammy Performance. Aided by a special effects trick that made it appear (to viewers at home) as though the members of 'NSYNC were in color while the onstage extras were in black and white, Timberlake, Lance Bass, Chris Kirkpatrick, JC Chasez and Joey Fatone strolled in and around the scenes like they were starring in a lost episode of the "Twilight Zone." After belting out the number's a cappella bridge, 'NSYNC segued into a moment seemingly inspired by the black and white shift to color in "The Wizard of Oz," as warm lights showered the stage with color and brought the tableaus to life.

3/4/01-*NSYNC's New Album. *NSYNC's Justin Timberlake has revealed the group has completed six tracks for their forthcoming third album (not counting their Christmas CD), the follow-up to "No Strings Attached," and apparently the guys are itching to get out on the road once again. "I didn't think it was going to be this crazy," commented Justin. "Something keeps happening every time we put an album together that this vibe kinda kicks in. It's so intense but it's a hell of a lot of fun." Apparently Justin has written more of the songs third time around, one of which is rumoured to be a collaboration with famed producer Rodney Jerkins. The band are touring the US between May and July on their 2001 Pop Odyssey 2001 tour, with Britain's own BBMak as their opening act.

3/2/01-MTVasia.com reports one of *NSYNC's security guards has been added to the lawsuit filed by 15-year-old fan Danielle McGuire and her parents claiming assault and battery during the incident which took place on 19 November at New York's Chase Park Plaza hotel.

3/2/01-Forbes magazine's Celebrity 100 list included *NSYNC at #8, the Backstreet Boys at #7, Britney at #4, and Tom Cruise at #1. Rankings are determined by income, popularity on the internet, television and in print.

3/1/01-'N Sync Plans Michael Jackson Homage. 'N Sync will pay homage to the King of Pop at next month's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. The best-selling boy band will induct Michael Jackson into the hall on March 19, their representative confirmed Tuesday. Besides Jackson, who was previously inducted as a member of The Jackson Five, other inductees include Paul Simon, Aerosmith, Queen and recent Grammy winners Steely Dan. The 16th annual induction ceremony will be held at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York, USA on March 19, 2001 and will be aired exclusively on VH1 (March 21, 2001 at 9 pm.) Besides the hall of fame appearance, 'N Sync is also gearing up for a nationwide tour, which will kick off in Miami in May. In June, they're set to release a new album, the follow-up to "No Strings Attached,'' which was the best-selling disc of 2000. In addition, 'N Sync will pay tribute to another Jackson next month. They are among the acts who will perform for "mtvICON," lauding Janet Jackson.

3/1/01-Justin Speaks Out About Gun Safety. The January 2001 issue of Marie Claire (Uma Thurman graces the cover) has an article entitled "End Gun Violence Now!" and features several famous people all wearing a shirt that has a butterfly on it and holding hands. The very last person in line is Justin and there's a little quote from him that says, "When the Constitution was drafted, AK-47s didn't exist. Now, at the very least, people should support safety locks for guns."
