Chapter Four

“Hey princess, what took you so long? Flirting with the Doc again? I’m lying here on my deathbed and all you can do is flirt with a 47-year-old Doc.” Brian was talking to me. His eyes were closed but his lips were moving. Then he gave me one of those sneaky little smiles that only Brian Littrell could pull off. He opened his eyes and said, “Shame on you.” Then he gave a quick giggle.

“Brian even if you’re in so much pain that you can’t even handle, you still manage to make everyone smile. You’ll never change Littrell. You’ll never change. But I’m glad you won’t.”

“That was a nice speech you gave here earlier. You know the one about putting everyone before yourself. I’ve taught you well my young Jedi.” And for the first time since the call last night, I cracked a smile. He didn’t change at all. He was his same old goofy, happy, playful self.

“Thanx, I think. How are you feeling?”

“I feel like I could run a mile. No just playing, I’m a little weak but I can manage.”

“There you go again, Brian when you’re in pain or something hurts, please tell me. I know you don’t want to bother anyone but this is for your own good. Besides, I can’t live without you.”

“You won’t princess. You won’t. I’ll live for a pretty long time. Do me a favor and wake everyone up. This calls for champagne.”

“Oh no you don’t.”

“I’m just kidding. Well before you do that, I want a hug.” So gave him a big hug and said, “You know what Prince Charming, you gave us a scare. We thought you were a goner but we had faith.”

“You know what princess, I would never, ever, ever leave you without a Prince.”
