Angel’s point of view
I watched in horror as Nick stepped onto the road, oblivious to the truck
that was coming right at him. He then turned his head and saw the truck, but was
frozen by fear. I knew that if I didn’t do something, Nick would be killed. I
never moved a person before; I didn’t know how much strength to use. But I knew
that Nick’s life depended on what I did. I concentrated on him and sent my
mental energy flying towards him. For a millisecond nothing happened, but then
Nick stumbled back onto the street with the truck missing him by mere inches. I
ran towards him and helped him get up.
“Are you okay?” I asked worriedly.
Nick looked at me with terror in his eyes, he was breathing heavily. “Yeah,
I think so,” he said shakily. “What happened?” he asked.
“You nearly got
killed by the truck,” I told him.
“That’s not what I meant,” said Nick
shaking his head. “I meant how did I get back onto the street? I felt like
someone pushed me, but there was no one near me to push me out of the way,” he
said.
“Maybe your body reacted without you knowing it,” I suggested. I
really hoped that he wouldn’t figure out that it was me who had saved him.
“Maybe,” he agreed. “Can we go somewhere and sit? I’m really shaky right
now,” he said.
“Sure, let’s go to my house, it’s only fifteen minutes away
from here,” I said and Nick nodded.
THE NEXT DAY
Nick’s point of view
“I’m telling you, someone pushed me out of the way!” I insisted.
“Nick,
you’re nuts, you said it yourself, there was no one near you,” stated Kevin not
looking up from his book.
“But I felt a push!” I exclaimed.
“Maybe you
jumped out of the way but you didn’t realize it. Like Angel said, you might’ve
just reacted,” suggested Brian.
“Why won’t you guys believe me?” I asked
frustratingly.
“Think about it Nicky, someone pushed you out of the way but
at the same time there was no one near you. Even you gotta admit, it sounds a
bit out there,” said AJ.
“Okay, yes, it does sound a bit out there, but I
felt it!” I insisted once again.
“Why don’t you ask Angel? Maybe she knows
something,” said Howie.
“Why would she know anything?” I asked.
“Maybe
she saw someone push you out of the way,” he replied shrugging.
“Good idea,
I’m gonna go over to her house right now,” I said.
Angel’s point of view
I was sitting on my bed bored out of my mind. I was thinking about what had
happened the previous day. I was so relieved that Nick was okay and that he
didn’t realize what really happened. I simply wasn’t ready to tell him about
everything, I just wasn’t.
I turned on some music and then lifted a pen off
of my bed in front of me and began twirling it in the air. That always relaxed
me. I was twirling it for about five minutes when I felt like someone was
watching me. I slowly raised my head and saw Nick in my doorway. My
concentration broke, and the pen fell back onto my bed.
“Did I just see what
I think I saw?” asked Nick slowly.
“Uh, how long have you been there?” I
asked, beginning to panic.
“Long enough to see that pen twirling…while no
one was holding it,” stated Nick and looked at me. “How did you do that?” he
asked.
“I…um…can just do it,” I said and half smiled at him. Nick didn’t
smile back; he looked like he was in shock.
“It was you yesterday wasn’t it?
You pushed me out of the way,” he said and I nodded. “I need to think,” he said
suddenly and turned around and ran down the stairs. A few seconds later, I heard
the front door slam.
Drew’s point of view
I saw Nick running past me and out the door. I knew that something was wrong
so I immediately went up to Angel’s room. She was sitting on her bed just
staring straight ahead.
“Ang?” I said softly.
She slowly turned her head
to look at me. I saw tears in her eyes. “He ran, just like the rest of them,”
she said and began crying.
“What happened?” I asked quietly.
“He saw me
twirling the pen and then just freaked. He said that he needed to think and
bolted out of the room,” said Angel through tears.
“You never know, he might
come back,” I assured her. Angel leaned on my shoulder and buried her face in my
t-shirt.
“No, he won’t come back, he was so freaked by what he saw, he’ll
never come back,” she sobbed.
“Shh, it’ll be okay,” I said gently stroking
my sister’s head.
“Drew, we both know that it won’t,” stated Angel.
“He’ll come back, just give him some time to think,” I told her.
Angel
shook her head. “No, just watch, I’m never going to hear from him again.”
Nick’s point of view
I sat on my couch trying to figure out what I had seen. There was no denying
it, I saw Angel twirling a pen without the use of her hands. But that was
impossible wasn’t it? People just didn’t do that, did they? I was simply
shocked. My phone ringing interrupted my thoughts.
“Hello?” I said.
“Nick, listen, pack quickly and be ready in an hour,” came Brian’s urgent
voice.
“Huh? Am I missing something?” I asked.
“We leave for California
in two hours,” he told me.
“But we just came back from there!” I protested.
“Well, it seems like we need to do some more interviews and promo stuff so
pack fast,” he replied.
“Ugh, fine,” I said and hung up. I was hoping that I
would have time to gather my thoughts about what had happened and think about
everything in a calm and collected manner, but no, my career was one step ahead
of me as usual.
I stuffed some clothes into a duffel bag and was ready an
hour later. I walked out of my house just in time to see the limo pull up. I got
in and saw that the rest of the guys, plus Leighanne and Kristin were already
there. I greeted the six of them and sat down in the only space left.
“You
okay?” asked AJ looking at me.
“Yeah, just something on my mind,” I replied
looking into the window.
“Wanna talk about it?” offered Brian.
“Nah,
that’s okay, no need to,” I told him.
“Okay,” said Brian.
I was left
alone with my thoughts. I kept seeing that pen floating in the air and I still
couldn’t believe it, it was just nuts. Maybe that was it, I was going nuts and I
had imagined the entire thing. But then again, that wouldn’t account for me
being pushed away from the truck at the last second. I sighed and looked at the
streets and houses whizzing by the limo. Life was going on and I had to deal
with this huge thing. Then again, I was sure that Angel wasn’t having fun
either. Only then did it occur to me that I had run out on her. I almost picked
up my cell phone to call her but something stopped me. I didn’t know what to say
to her, it was too weird. I needed more time.
THE NEXT DAY
Angel’s point of view
I was lying on my bed and staring into the ceiling when I heard Drew come
into my room.
“Up for a movie?” he asked cheerfully, a little too
cheerfully.
“Thanks for trying Drew,” I told him and smiled sympathetically.
“But I really don’t want to do anything right now except lie here and stare and
my fascinating ceiling.”
Drew looked at my plain white ceiling. “Oh yeah, I
can see where the fascination comes in,” he deadpanned.
“Why don’t you go do
something fun with your friends?” I suggested.
“Last time I did that I ran
home to find you unconscious on the floor,” he said sternly.
“That was one
time, are you going to hold that against me for the rest of my life?” I asked.
“Well…” began Drew and then grinned.
I couldn’t help it, I grinned back.
“Okay, you got a smile out of me, now go have fun!” I told him.
“I don’t
know,” said Drew thoughtfully.
“You know you want to, besides, if you never
see your friends, I’m going to suspect that you made them up all along,” I said
smiling.
“Hey, I resent that, what about the graduation photos?” he asked.
“Photographs can be forged,” I said and laughed.
“Funny Ang, real
funny,” said Drew trying to be serious but it didn’t work, his mouth curved into
a smile. “Why don’t you call Kelly and ask her to come over?” he recommended.
“I don’t know, she would see that I’m upset, but how do I explain to her
what happened with Nick?” I asked.
“Tell her the truth,” said Drew simply.
“After what happened with Nick when he found out the truth? I don’t think
so!” I exclaimed.
“You’ve known Kelly for a long time, I don’t think that
she would freak like Nick did, besides, he saw you accidentally, you would tell
Kelly yourself, that should make a difference,” he explained.
“Maybe, I’ll
think about it,” I said shrugging.
“That’s all I ask,” said Drew and strode
out of my room. A few minutes later I heard him call out that he was going to
catch a movie with his friends and advised me not to do anything stupid. Testing
my telekinesis that day wasn’t stupid, it was…not a good time for it that was
all. I looked over at my phone and I really was tempted to call Kelly. She was
my best friend, I could tell her anything, well, almost anything. She had always
been there for me and this was a time when I really needed her. I took a deep
breath and dialed her number.
“Kel?” I said when I heard her pick up.
“Hey Ang, what’s up?” she asked.
“Listen, I gotta tell you something,
can you come over?” I asked.
“Sure no prob, I’ll be there in ten minutes,”
she replied. “Is everything okay?” she added in a concerned tone.
“I’ll tell
you everything when you get here,” I told her.
“Okay, see you in ten,” she
said and hung up. I hung up the phone and then picked it up again. I knew that I
probably shouldn’t have done it, but I couldn’t stop myself. Before I knew it, I
was dialing Nick’s number.
“Hello?” said a male voice but it wasn’t Nick.
The voice was familiar though. “Bri? Why are you picking up Nick’s phone?” I
asked.
“Angel? He came by to talk to me about a half an hour ago and of
course wound up leaving his phone in my hotel room, I was on my way to his room
to give it back to him,” he explained.
I was confused. “What? Did you just
say hotel room?” I asked.
“Yeah, I did, didn’t Nick tell you? We’re in
California,” he told me.
I didn’t know what to say. That was why Nick hadn’t
called; he was no longer in the same state. “Oh,” I managed to choke out.
“Do you want me to tell him that you called?” asked Brian.
“No, that’s
okay, it wasn’t important, bye Bri,” I said and quickly hung up.
Brian’s point of view
I hung up Nick’s phone and tried to figure out what just happened. Since when
didn’t Angel want me to tell Nick that she had called? Something weird was
definitely going on and I was going to find out what.
I knocked on Nick’s
hotel room door and waited for him to answer.
“Bri, what’s up?” asked Nick
opening the door.
“First of all, you forgot this in my room,” I told him as
I came in and gave him his phone.
“Oh thanks, I was wondering where it was,”
said Nick and put it in his pocket.
“And second of all,” I continued,
“What’s going on between you and Angel?” I asked.
“What do you mean?” asked
Nick.
“I mean since when doesn’t she want you to know that she called?”
“She called? When?”
“Like five minutes ago but she didn’t want me to
tell you that she did.”
“We um, sort of had an argument, no wait, it wasn’t
an argument, more like a situation and I’m trying to deal with it right now.”
“What kind of situation?”
“Sorry Bri, but I don’t think I can tell you,”
said Nick shaking his head.
“Why not?” I asked completely confused.
“Because it’s about Angel and only she can tell you,” he replied.
“Um,
okay,” I said nodding. “But is something wrong?” I asked. “Cause she didn’t seem
to know that we were in California which means that you didn’t tell her, why?”
“I forgot,” said Nick shrugging.
“I’m not buying that,” I said shaking
my head. “You and Angel have been almost inseparable since you two got together,
there’s no way that you would forget to call her and tell her you were leaving
the state for a week. Something else is going on, now spill it,” I said.
“Bri, for the last time, I can’t tell you,” said Nick sighing.
“Did you
guys break up?”
“No…I don’t think so…I don’t know!”
“Okay, that makes a
lot of sense,” I said sarcastically.
“Look, I’m sure Angel will explain
someday, I just know that I can’t tell you, as far as I’m concerned, I wasn’t
supposed to know either, I found out by accident,” said Nick.
Okay, now I
was really confused. He was like going in circles and my brain was lost. “Fine,”
I agreed. “Just don’t do anything stupid,” I warned him lightheartedly.
“I’ll try not to,” said Nick.
He then said something else but I couldn’t
hear him. “What did you say?” I asked.
“Oh, nothing,” replied Nick.
“Okay, I’ll see you later,” I told him and walked out of the room.
Nick’s point of view
I closed the door behind Brian and then sat down on a chair. What Brian
didn’t hear me say was the statement ‘but I’m afraid I already have’. And I was
pretty sure I was right. I might’ve ruined things with Angel already and we’d
only been going out for such a short time. Maybe I shouldn’t have freaked out
like that, or I should’ve at least told her about California so she wouldn’t
have to find out about it from Brian. At that moment I was really tempted to
call her and apologize for running out on her, in fact, I did pick up the phone
to call her but then Howie knocked on my door and told me that we had to go to
the interview.
I sighed and put the phone back into my pocket. I promised
myself that I would call Angel as soon as I had the chance.
