I woke up to the sound of someone incessantly ringing my doorbell. I looked at the alarm clock on my nightstand. Eight thirty in the morning.
"Whoever you are, you better be in dire need of help if you're at my door this early," I grumbled as I walked up to my front door and opened it.
"Hello," said one of my friends, the guy I've known for three years now.
"Nick, you are so dead," I told him.
He grinned. "Why's that?"
"Okay, first of all, you weren't supposed to be here until two o'clock, second of all, if you knew you were gonna be this early, at least you could've called and told me about it," I said and walked back to my room without giving him a second glance.
Nick hurried after me. "I'm sorry, it's just that practice has been moved from today to tomorrow and I was already up at six when Brian called and told me about it, so I figured I'd just come to you a few hours early," he explained.
I plopped down on my bed and buried myself under my comforter. "Good night," I mumbled.
Nick pulled the comforter away from my face. "Don't you mean good morning?" he asked. I ignored him and turned to my other side. "You know," he continued, "You're lucky I didn't come here at six thirty."
I turned to face him and shot him a dirty look. "If you had done that, your group would no longer have five members, trust me," I threatened.
Nick laughed.
I was definitely missing the funny part.
"Can I hang out here today?" he asked, and I could hear a pleading note in his tone.
"Why?"
"Cause Brian dropped me off here and it's too far to walk back to my house," he said and made sad puppy eyes at me and stuck out his lower lip. It was too much. I burst out laughing. You haven't lived until you've seen a twenty two year old sticking out his lower lip and making sad puppy eyes.
"You do have a car you know," I reminded him.
"It's getting a fresh coat of paint and an oil change. That's why I came here at eight thirty; Brian drove with me to the mechanic first and then dropped me off here. The car will be ready in a couple of hours but it's too far so I can't get there, and Bri is busy today so he said that he can only pick me up around nine tonight," said Nick and went back to his puppy eyes.
"Okay okay, stop doing that," I agreed and put my hand over his eyes.
"Thank you," said Nick, taking my hand off of his face and putting it on my own. I pushed him off of my bed and laughed when he landed on the floor with a thud.
"Hey, that could've hurt," he whined getting up.
"But it didn't," I told him and got up myself.
"It's a long drop," complained Nick pointing at my bed.
"It's like one foot!" I exclaimed laughing.
"Still," said Nick stubbornly.
"You are such a baby," I said shaking my head.
"Am not!" he retorted.
"I rest my case," I said. "I'm going to go take a shower, think you can entertain yourself for twenty minutes?" I asked.
"Do you want company?" he asked, mischievously raising his eyebrows.
I shook my head once again. "You've been spending way too much time with AJ," I told him, then went into the bathroom and closed the door.
I turned on the hot water and waited for it to warm up. As soon as it did, I got into the shower and let my mind wander towards the cute blonde who was at that moment in my room doing God knows what. Okay, I liked him; I'll admit that much. Was I willing to do anything about it? Sure. And I have. I told him I liked him, twice. His response? It's better to be friends. Friends, ha! How can you be friends with like the most gorgeous guy you've ever seen and not have the urge to kiss him every time you see him? I wouldn't know. Cause that's exactly what I wanted to do every time I saw Nick. Good thing he was rarely around right?
"Jullllieee!" I heard Nick whining from my room.
"What?" I yelled.
Nick yelled something I couldn't hear.
"What?" I screamed again.
"I said, I can't find your remote," said Nick opening the door and sticking his head inside. Thank God I was behind a shower curtain, one that was not see-through.
"Nick! Get out of here!" I shouted.
"It's not like I can see anything," he said defensively. "And I'll get out as soon as you tell me where you put your remote control," he added.
"I don't know where I put it," I replied and squeezed some shower gel onto my bath sponge.
"Well how am I supposed to turn on the TV?" he asked.
"There's this button on the TV, it says 'power', you push it, and voila, the TV turns on," I told him and heard Nick gasp. I wasn't sure if the gasp was sarcastic or not.
"You mean turn the TV on with, like, my hand?" he asked shocked. Okay, so the gasp wasn't sarcastic.
"Yes!" I said frustratingly. Why was that concept so hard to grasp?
"Fine," said Nick and went out of the bathroom.
I laughed slightly. What a character he was.
I came out of the shower fifteen minutes later and saw Nick watching TV.
"Did you find the power button?" I asked him grinning, and sat down on my bed next to him.
"Nope, I found your remote," he said waving the device in the air.
"Men," I mumbled with a laugh. "So since you're gonna be here the entire day, what do you want to do?" I asked.
Nick shrugged, "I dunno."
"You wanna watch a video?" I suggested.
"Sure, that works," he said and followed me as I got up and went to the living room. I looked through my collection of videotapes and finally found one Nick and me both agreed on. I put the tape into the VCR and sat down on the couch with Nick.
"Why are you sitting so far away from me?" asked Nick.
"I'm not far away," I said glancing at the probable three feet of space between us.
"Yes you are, come on, I have an idea. Come here," he said waving his hand for me to move.
I shrugged and moved closer to him. Nick spread his legs apart and pulled me towards him so that I was leaning against his chest. I had to admit, it was comfy.
"Better?" he asked.
I nodded silently. Okay, so I liked him and he didn't like me back. But it was his idea to sit like that, and I wasn't about to complain.
About halfway through the movie Nick put his arms around my waist and I giggled cause he tickled me.
"Ticklish?" he asked grinning.
"No," I lied.
"Yes you are!" exclaimed Nick and started tickling me like there was no tomorrow.
I laughed as I tried to get away from his hands. Wasn't working too well. Every time I managed to squirm out of his grasp, he kept getting a better one.
Finally, when we were both out of breath, Nick stopped tickling me and stopped moving altogether. It was then that I realized what an interesting position we were in. I was lying flat on my back on the couch and Nick somehow wound up on top of me. Our faces were literally inches apart.
We were breathing heavily as we looked at one another. I stared into his blue eyes and felt myself getting lost; they held so much emotion. Before I knew it, his lips were on mine. It was the most wonderful and the most gentle kiss I ever had in my entire life. When we pulled apart, I found my voice long enough to say, "What took you so long?"
Nick smiled and shrugged. "I was a moron," he said simply and kissed me again. Needless to say, the movie was forgotten.
