A Great Plan Ruined

Dawn’s point of view

Stacey and me were screaming our lungs out and loving every minute of it. I can’t believe we’re actually here, at a Backstreet Boys concert!!! Okay, now I’m gonna cut the fake enthusiasm. The truth is, I really don’t feel well. I think that I thought that my flu went away when it really didn’t. But I don’t want to ruin Stacey’s night and mine too. I mean we’re looking at the Backstreet Boys!! Will I let the flu get in the way? Maybe. I decided that if I feel worse by the time the ten-minute break in the concert comes, I’ll tell Stacey, if not, then I won’t say a thing.

Nick’s point of view

As I was dancing and singing of course, I spotted this girl in the front row and I knew that she had to be Dawn. I don’t know how I knew, I just did. Okay, maybe the necklace on her neck that said ‘Dawn’ gave me a clue but I really did think that it was her before I saw the necklace.
When we all ran backstage for the ten-minute break I pulled Brian over.
“I saw her!” I exclaimed. Brian gave me a weird look.
“Saw who?” he asked. Gee thanks Bri for remembering the most important thing on my mind tonight.
“Hello? Dawn! Remember her?” I asked tapping him lightly on his forehead.
“Oh yeah her, you saw Dawn? How is that possible, you don’t even know what she looks like!” said Brian slapping my hand away.
“I’m telling you it’s her, she’s wearing a white top and black pants, and she has a necklace that says ‘Dawn’,” I said excitedly.
“So you’re gonna ask her to come up on stage with you?” asked Brian.
“Yeah, I’m gonna ask her right before we sing ‘Shape of My Heart’. What do you think?” I asked. Okay, I wasn’t gonna back out if Brian said that it was a bad idea, but hey, I just wanted his opinion on it.
“Good idea Nicky, let’s see how it goes,” said Brian and then went to change his clothing.

Dawn’s point of view

Well, here we are, waiting for the Backstreet Boys to come onstage again. And I feel horrible! I guess I better tell Stacey, oh man, she’s gonna hate me!
“Stace?” I said turning to face her.
“What?” she asked looking at me with the biggest grin on her face. I winced at how happy she looked because I knew that I was about to ruin it.
“I gotta tell you something,” I began.
“What is it?”
“I don’t feel very well,” I confessed. There, I said it, now she’s gonna hate me. But to my surprise Stacey’s face showed nothing but concern.
“Dawn, what’s wrong?” she asked her smile disappearing.
“I think it’s the flu again, I don’t think it went away the first time and now it’s back for more,” I said wincing as the music from the loudspeakers and the screaming of the fans finally got to me and my head began to pound painfully. A dizziness spell washed over me and I put my hand on Stacey’s arm to steady myself. Stacey put her hand on my forehead and quickly took it away.
“Dawn! You’re burning up!” she exclaimed. “Come on, we have to get you home right now!” she said and put her arm around me and began to lead me towards the exit.
“But what about the concert?” I asked.
“There will be other concerts, my main concern is you right now,” said Stacey kindly.
“Thanks,” I said.
“For what?”
“For being such a good friend,” I replied and continued to lean on my best friend as we walked out of the arena and back to our car.

Nick’s point of view

I ran out on stage full of energy. I was so happy that I would finally get to tell Dawn who I am. As the beginning notes of the song started, I looked into the front row to look at Dawn again. To my complete shock, her seat and the seat next to it were empty. I casually made my way over to Brian and closed my microphone with my hand.
“She’s gone!” I hissed.
“Dawn?” asked Brian also putting a hand over his own microphone.
“Yeah! I don’t see her anywhere!” I said in frustration.
“Maybe she just went to the bathroom or something,” suggested Brian.
“Maybe you’re right,” I agreed and then started to sing. But four songs later, Dawn was still not back and my mood and my energy level were dropping quickly.

Dawn’s point of view

I’m back home and back in bed. The worst part seems to be that my flu came back worse than before! I hate this; Stacey and me missed half the concert because of me getting sick again!
“Dawn do you need anything?” asked Stacey her face full of concern. I shook my head. Then my cell phone rang, Stacey grabbed it.

Nick’s point of view

“Hi, may I speak to Dawn?” I said to the unfamiliar voice that picked up Dawn’s cell phone. I had to find out why she left.
“Dawn can’t come to the phone right now, is this Nick?” asked Stacey.
“Yeah, this is Nick, oh you’re Stacey right?” I asked remembering that Dawn said that Stacey was her best friend who lived with her.
“Yeah, it’s Stacey,” Said Stacey.
“So why can’t Dawn come to the phone?” I asked in confusion.
“She got sick again,” explained Stacey.
“Oh my God, is she okay?” I asked alarm rising in my voice.
“Not really, she’s worse than she was last time,” said Stacey sadly.
“Oh wow, but I thought that you two were going to a Backstreet Boys concert today,” I said trying to find out why they left.
“We did, but we had to leave during the ten-minute break because Dawn was feeling really sick,” replied Stacey. Ooooh, so that’s why they left. Oh man, I hope that Dawn will be okay soon. It was then that I got a brilliant idea.
“Listen Stacey, I gotta ask you a question…” I began.

Dawn’s point of view

I am so upset, Nick called and I couldn’t even talk to him! My throat hurts so much it’s literally on fire. I can barely swallow, much less talk. I heard the doorbell ringing and heard Stacey yell, “I’ll get it, don’t get up!” She’s not funny.

Stacey’s point of view

I opened the door and nearly passed out from shock. There in front of me, was standing the one and only NICK CARTER!!! I tried not to hyperventilate as I racked my brain to come up with the ability to speak.
“H-hi, may I help y-you?” I managed to choke out. Nick smiled. Oh God, his smile is so gorgeous; HE’S so gorgeous!
“Yeah, Stacey right?” he asked. HE KNOWS MY NAME!!! Wait a minute, HOW does he know my name?
“How do you know my name?” I asked still in shock.
“We spoke on the phone like twenty minutes ago,” replied Nick.
“WHAT?? YOU’RE the Nick Dawn met online?” I exclaimed. I was right!!! And Dawn didn’t believe me when I told her that NintendoAddictNC sounds a lot like Nick Carter.
“Yeah, that would be me. So can I come in?” he asked sheepishly. I noticed that he was still standing outside.
“Oh, of course, come on in,” I said hurriedly and moved so that he could come in.
“Thanks,” grinned Nick. He looked around. “So where’s Dawn?” he asked.
“She’s in her room, come on, I’ll show you the way,” I said waving for him to follow me. We got to the door of Dawn’s room and stopped. “Hey Dawn, you have company and you won’t believe who it is!” I said loudly. Then I opened the door and Nick and I went in.

Dawn’s point of view

When I saw Stacey come in I didn’t know why she had to say so loudly that I had company. It was when I saw the person behind her, I nearly freaked out. It was NICK CARTER!!
“Nick?” I managed to utter with my voice hoarse and barely audible.
“Yeah,” he said smiling that heart-melting smile. Stacey looked at Nick and me and quietly left the room, but not before grinning and pointing at Nick behind his back mouthing the words ‘he’s so hot!’ I smiled and turned my attention to Nick.
“So I heard you missed the second part of the concert,” he said sitting down next to me. I nodded but gave him a look of pure confusion. He got the hint. “Oh, that’s right, I should explain. You know me better as NintendoAddictNC,” as soon as he said that I realized that Stacey was right! I can’t believe that the Nick I met online is really Nick Carter; I’m stunned.
“Wow,” I said in a voice barely above a whisper.
“Don’t try to talk, it’s bad for you,” said Nick smiling. Aww, he’s so sweet! He’s actually concerned about me! Nick then took out something from the bag that he brought with him.
“Chicken soup?” he asked pointing at the can he was holding. I smiled and nodded. Can this guy get any better? He’s like too good to be true or something. “Okay, I’ll go heat it,” said Nick. “I’ll be right back,” he then got up and walked out of the room. I’m still in total shock, I mean just yesterday I was staring at his poster in my room and wondering what it would be like to see him onstage today. But now he’s here, in my house! This is definitely the happiest day of my life. Okay, so it would be happier if I could actually talk, but that’s okay, I gotta get my voice back sometime. Nick then reappeared holding a plate with chicken soup. He sat down on my bed next to me and took the spoon.
“Okay, open up,” he said and held a spoonful of soup in front of my mouth. I opened my mouth and he placed the spoon in it. Wow, Nick Carter is feeding me chicken soup. Don’t mind me, I pretty much forgot at this point that my fever is probably reaching 104 degrees right now. When Nick was done feeding me soup I lay back down since the room was beginning to spin, or at least it was for me.
“So how do you feel?” asked Nick. “Just nod for better, shake your head for worse, or don’t do anything for same,” he instructed because he didn’t want me to talk. I shook my head. That caused the room to spin even faster. I closed my eyes to try to make the dizziness go away. I felt Nick place his hand on my forehead. His hand was very cool, or maybe it’s because my head was very hot, I don’t know. I then heard Stacey come into the room.
“How is she?” she asked.
“Worse according to her,” replied Nick. “Maybe Dawn needs to go to the doctor,” he suggested.
“She’s been to one. The doctor said that Dawn caught a really bad case of the flu and that she needs to stay in bed for at least a week, get plenty of rest, drink lots of liquids, and take her medicine,” replied Stacey. At that moment everything began to get fuzzy and I fell into a deep sleep.

Nick’s point of view

I looked at Dawn as she slept and thought about how beautiful she was. I’m so glad that I came to see her. I remembered what Brian told me a while ago, “You know you love someone when you’re content with just watching them sleep.” I thought about that now. I know that there’s no way that I could be in love with Dawn, yet, but I do like her a lot. I’m definitely going to ask her out when she gets better because something inside is telling me not to let her go.
I don’t know how long I was sitting there and watching Dawn sleep but then I saw her moving and a moment later she opened her eyes and focused on me.
“Nick, you’re still here?” she asked in a whisper.
“Of course I am,” I smiled and so did she. Her entire face lit up when she smiled. Yeah I know; I’ve got it bad for her. “But you shouldn’t be talking, give your throat some rest,” I said to her. She made a face and I laughed.
“I don’t want to rest it, I haven’t spoken for,” she looked at the alarm clock, “Three hours, that’s way too much,” she said grinning.
“So does this mean that you’re feeling better?” I asked.
“Yeah, it’s probably just the medicine, but I’ll enjoy it while it lasts,” replied Dawn. “So what have you been doing while I slept?” she asked.
“I sat here and watched you sleep,” I said.
“Are you serious?” asked Dawn raising her eyebrows. “That must’ve been pretty boring.”
“Yes I am serious and no it wasn’t boring,” I replied. I looked at my watch and realized that the guys are going to kill me. I was already two hours late to meet them. “Dawn, I’ll be right back okay? I need to make a phone call,” I said getting up.
“Sure,” she smiled. I love her smile. I walked out of the room and quickly punched in Brian’s cell phone number. I waited, impatiently tapping my foot, for him to answer.
“Hello?” came Brian’s voice on the other line.
“Hey Rok,” I said. Okay, now he’s gonna kill me or better yet give the phone to Kevin so that he can yell and then kill me.
“NICK! Where are you?” exclaimed Brian.
“I’m with Dawn,” I replied matter-of-factly.
“Still? You were supposed to be here two hours ago!” said Brian angrily.
“Yeah I know, I just lost track of time,” I said, and then I imagined Kevin being so angry that his head was about to explode. I let out a small laugh.
“What’s so funny?” asked Brian.
“I just imagined Kev right about now,” I replied still grinning.
“Yeah, well, he’s pissed off at you,” said Brian. Then I heard Kevin in the background asking Brian if it was me on the phone.
“I bet he is, listen Bri, I’m gonna be at the hotel within an hour okay? Bye,” I said and hung up without waiting for an answer because I knew that if I waited a few more seconds, Kevin would take the phone and then yell at me for a long time. Okay, so I didn’t want to go back to the hotel, but what choice did I have? Since I actually want to see Dawn again and also to see next week, I think I better get back and fast, before the guys think of some cruel ways of killing me, if they haven’t already.
“Hey I’m back,” I said coming into Dawn’s room.
“Welcome back,” she said smiling.
“Thanks,” I said and sat down next to her. “Listen, I have to go back to the hotel,” I told her.
“Okay, well, thanks for coming, it meant a lot,” said Dawn, I could see that she was disappointed that I had to go.
“Dawn, it’s not like this is the last time we see each other, I’ll be back tomorrow,” I promised. Dawn’s expression brightened.
“You will?” she asked.
“Definitely, you can count on it,” I said smiling. “Now get some rest, because I want to see you feeling better tomorrow, okay?” I asked.
“Okay, I’ll do my best,” said Dawn smiling. I kissed her on the cheek and then left.
When I got back to the hotel, I waited a few minutes before going into my room. I knew that all the guys were in there waiting for me to get back. Okay, I guess it’s now or never. I took a deep breath and went in. Instantly I was greeted by four faces who didn’t look amused the least bit.
“Uh, hey guys,” I said trying to sound upbeat.
“Nick, you wanna explain where you’ve been for the past two and a half hours?” asked Kevin. He looked madder than the rest of the guys. I sighed and began explaining the whole story to them.
